Zanus, I couldn't get through the books, and enjoy the movies much more. We have the makings of videos with our extended collection. I'm also usually the person to prefer the book, and only one other series so far has been better as movies in my opinion. I've always enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia movies more than the books.

I agree Luna, elves and fairies are usually my favorites. Though I do have a soft spot for Hobbits. Sam and Pippin are two of my absolute favorite characters.

I ought to pick up the extended editions, I saw them in a charity shop for £2.50 each. (I always check charity shops to see their book collections, I actually got some of the WoT books from them for £1.00 each, I was so happy :D)
Have you watched The Hobbit trilogy? (I've only seen the first one, I enjoyed it, but thought it was far too long)

I have seen all the LotR + The Hobbit extended. :look: I personally enjoyed it all. Of course, there were good things and bad things about them, moments in which I thought they really dragged it out - or the complete opposite - but overall, I liked it. :pleased-1: When it comes to books in general and their movie adaptations, I try to see the movie independently, as in, not consider it an adaptation. It makes me feel a bit better about them - as movies on their own, most of them are not bad, but when I start nitpicking about everything they did wrong in comparison to the books... Well, I would rather not start.

Hi Zanus! Welcome to Tar Valon. :D

I started reading WoT when I was 18, too (except book 9 had just been published, so I had to wait for the rest :grumble ). I can definitely say that 15 years later, they're still with me and I love them as much as I did then -- if not more. Actually, probably more. I didn't like books 7 and 8 my first few times through, but when I did my re-read a few years ago, I found that I enjoyed them. So: You have many years ahead of you to enjoy this series. :pleased-1:

Now I feel old. :look: I'm going to take my cane and hobble back to my office.

I've actually only seen the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings. That's just what I grew up watching. I also LOVE the Hobbit trilogy. I saw the first two in theaters, but I've only seen the final one once. I've also seen the extended editions of the first two. I was actually disappointed with the Unexpected Journey extended pieces, but I felt that the Desolation of Smaug had much more quality content after the extension. I have actually read the Hobbit several times, and though there are some parts of the movies I don't enjoy as much, overall I like them very much. :pleased-1:

Well, I'm sorry for butchering your post, but I had to extract this part...
Sorry for the long paragraph, but I love WoT so much!

... to officially say "Welcome to the place you'll never have to apologise for such a thing!"

Seriously, though - welcome to TV.Net! :joy We definitely share some favourite moments from the books - I've always loved Nynaeve and her character, and I could always justify her actions. :P (Also, thank you for being thoughtful and putting all that in spoiler tags. :pleased-1:)

And by the way... You're avatar is gourgeous. :D

Thank you, I am surprised people like it so much, I don't think it rivals any of the avatars I have seen of other people so far!
I'll keep a note of the specific things which make me like Nynaeve from now (Book 8 - Book 14) on so I can let you know, or any other characters for that point!

I love your avi Zanus! And welcome to Tar Valon :D

I started to read WoT in norwegian first, because I was fed up with English at the University (history), so I asked the bookstore about something, and they suggested WoT :D When I was waiting for book 7 to be translated, I couldn't wait no more, so I bought the english pocket, and after that, I've all books in English :pleased-1: (I bought book 7, then I didn't want to buy more of the norwegian translated books). So yeah, I've read WoT almost half of my life now :shifty

So again, welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy this site *nodnods*

Glad to see that avatar was such a huge success! :hug

Also, I only watch the extended LotR now. Once you watch them, you can never go back to watching the original theatrical additions because you feel like too much is missing. :)

I picked all three up today from my local charity shop. So I will watch them soon :D
