What do you think can be removed to create a good TV Series?

I strongly disagree with his bit about the romances. Cheesy I know but if the world were about to end, what could be more important. I mean what are you even fighting to save? The romances help us to invest in the characters and that is essential.

Faile/Perrin/Shaido - I know the general concensus is against this whole arc but I love it and think it is essential for the character development that needs to happen for final events to play out as they do.

Morgase- I love this whole story line but also agree that it could be safely cut.

Kind of minor but I am curious how they are going to deal with all the spanking as punishment! Don't see it quite fitting /working/going down well with audiences.

Merging/reducing the forsaken could work and help with general condensing of the story to transfer to the screen. But it would have to be so carefully done.

I feel that all the battle movement and game of houses that were played in book five and six can be cut down.
I agree that all the sniffs, skirts smothing, and hair playing can be toned down.
I enjoy Perrin but understand that parts of his story does drag on and can be shortened. Which brings winter heart into play that can be reduced as well.
The romance is important although it can seem cheesy it needs to stay since it drives the story just as much

Yeah I think viewers would revolt if Nynaeve never tugged her braid once.

My thought from the other day about the TV series: How many fans of the book are going to be watching the show and go "They said her name HOW?" when various characters are first referenced? :p

That was my reaction the first time I listened to the audiobooks. Am used to those pronounciations now so as long as they go with those.

If Nyneave doesn't giver her braid a tug is it even Wheel of Time? Even if everything else is perfect?

I personally don't care how they pronounce names etc. I know I pronounce most of it 'wrong' anyway!

I'm sure I pronounce the name wrong... at least judging by the audiobook version.

Haha, Nyneave tugging her braid was one of the first things I've noticed reapeted in the books. I'm sure it will be in the show.

My only fear is that when they showcase certain things from the books like the iconic braid tug, I don't want it to feel too much like a 'nod' or fanservice, like over emphasizing the braid tug so the actress almost winks at the camera when she does it. I know what I'm trying to say lol

This thread is hurting my entire existential being. I need to read the series start to finish one last time before the TV series inevitably ruins it for me. Netflix just released a clip of Geralt downing a vial from Witcher series, doesn't look like Geralt AT ALL. I have no faith in Hollywood types period, netflix or amazon prime.

I usually have a low level of enthusiasm for books transferred to the big screen, mainly because they tend to screw things up to such a degree. The only one I think they did an amazing job on was the game of thrones series.

The last kingdom series is a prime example of a semi hatchet job. Things like racing through plot lines and bad casting where the character does not emit the feel of the spirit are when you just want to stop watching because of how they manage to butcher the story line.

Things I’m gonna look for are casting. They don’t need to be big names but rather people who pop out at you, like aria in GoT.

The mention of braid tugging, while great to read on paper tend to come over unnatural on the screen, so it’ll be interesting to watch how they manage it.

Despite my initial cynicism, I do look forward to seeing how they manage the expectation game.

Oh, I know one thing that can be completely removed that will improve the series (to me, at least): Gawyn.

Gawyn is a trash character, change my mind.

He is a little bit important near the end...
He is the reason Egwene goes awsomeballs ballistic and dies and killing all the Ayyad...

He's a sassy boy-next-door who is cute enough to marry with flirty flair out the yin-yang. Loyal, down-to-earth, and an example of a man willing to follow a woman whether it's his sister-queen or his
amyrlin-wife.

Plus he's good with his sword.
