Most of the people I've personally talked to either love her or hate her.
I prefer Egwene to Elaine, and that's about as far as I'll go . There are moments when I really like Egwene. And other moments when her choices make me want to throw her out a window. I take that as a sign of a relatively realistic character - we can't always like someone all the time.
I look forward to reading the transcription when I'm on my break later
I got WaFO'd.
Well that was quite exciting!
I like that he is intent on keeping the magic visual and using descriptions from the book to depict it (oil slick on water for tainted Saidin, etc.). I also like that he was willing to let a few specifics out, like his intent to expand Logan's scenes from the book. I think it's clear he's a WoT fan for sure. I was also interested that he felt able to emphatically state "NO" to showing Rand ending up with three romantic interests. Curious.
On the flip side, it's disappointing that even now he could not even ballpark or speculate about when or if the show is even going to be ordered by Amazon yet. I know all the business realities involved in stuff like this, but it's hard to really invest your heart in the conversation when you don't even know if this is just going to go poof in a year or two and be just so much smoke and pipe dreams.
Ah well, still nice to have a professional so willing to actively engage with the fan community. I was very happy to see that, and his energy level is clearly palpable.
This one threw me for a loop as well. VERY DIRECT
And I respect that he's not naming people he'd like to cast for certain roles
This one cracked me up:
"How many different pairs of pants will Min wear on the show throughout the entire run of the series?"
Maybe he is trying to make the show more palatable for a modern audience.
I hope that's the case...Personally, I'm fine with polyamorous relationships, as long as everyone involved in it okay with it. It's not for me, but it's also not for me to judge.
I definitely think this is one of the sleepers of the Q&A. For anyone who wants to see the actual question/answer, it's here:
But there's still a lot of ambiguity in that "No". Technically the guy asked 2 questions: will the romance plots follow that of the books, and will Rand end up with 3 girls. The "no" could be to either or both of those questions, and if it's just to the first, there's lots of ways to change the trajectory of that plot aspect without changing the overall purpose/feel.
Anyway. I'm pretty fascinated by that one and would love to try to get him to expand on it if he does something like this in the future.
Yeah, I feel this one for sure. I have hopes that things are like, actually happening but he's under NDAs. There was one question that was something like "can you explain your recent uptick in activity about the show in recent weeks?" and he said he could not answer that question. That strongly suggests there's something there that he just can't talk about, and not that it's an unknown (in my mind, at least).
I agree, Eluial Sedai. It's possible that he's just hyping/covering for not having decided things yet, but his tone and the difference between the WAFO answers and the "I can't answer" answers seems to indicate confidentiality agreements/clauses of some sort. It could easily be that he's finally gotten a contract signed which includes a confidentiality/non-disclosure clause; that would both increase his openness and activity and also require him to omit certain answers.
But I'm wildly speculating lol.
I can't wait to read all the answers in the Library after work.
Some of them are hilarious.
Yes! I noticed this, too. I think that's pretty key in what's him being mysterious because secrets make the show better, and what is under NDA.
Well...I suppose by the time we get to Avendesora, I may be more awed not having known, but today...
*tries hard not to whine*
Oh, I also liked his answer along the lines of "In case it's in question, we're definitely going to be condensing the late middle part of the series." And here I was wanting my full season of Crossroads of Twilight.
That would definitely cut viewership! Though, it would be funny.
"Tune in next time when Elayne acquires a SIXTEENTH unwanted midwife!"
*shudders in horror at the thought*
What does this mean? I'm out of the loop.
It's a play on "RaFO" - Read and Find Out. I think it was from a Q&A with Brandon Sanderson before the last book came out.
Since it's a tv show, Rafe changed it to "WaFO" - Watch and Find Out.
It predates Brandon by quite a bit, actually. Robert Jordan himself would regularly hand out RAFO cards at book signings and such.
Oooooh, that's really cool! I was not a part of the community then.
