We have 15 donations from 4 different countries! We are almost half way through the year, and we are 10 pints away from being halfway to our goal of 50. We can do it! Think about all the lives we are saving and how many families we are helping! Keep giving TarValon.net!

I gave yesterday! Unfortunately, it will probably be my last donation for a year, since I'm planning on getting a tattoo within the next two months.

Dnae! You can still give blood after getting a tattoo. As long as you get in it in a licensed facility, you only have to wait 2 weeks after getting one. Just thought I would let you know that.

New York is... picky. And my artist said she hasn't been allowed give for years, so

Yeah, I just read up on the policy. New York doesn't regulate their tattoo facilities, so you have to wait. *le sigh* But thank you so much for donating now!!!!

Whether you can give blood after getting a tattoo or piercing really depends on your area. In Utah, you can't give blood at the American Red Cross for 1 year after getting a tattoo or piercing.

I always thought the deferral period was two years after tattoos, but it's only one (I get a new one every two years) -- I'll be donating as soon as I can, now!

I'm sorry for slacking this summer. Life's been full of swimming lessons, Girl Scouts, and all the craziness of having a bored 6 year old.
Here is our update:

Blood Drive Update
We have donated 22 pints of blood so far this year!
Donations have come from 4 different countries throughout the world.
That is so AWESOME!!!!

First time donating since May! \o/ I found it hard to find donation centers in the middle of wilderness areas. :P (conservation work in extremely remote areas this summer).

Alas, it wasn't a good experience. I had to wait almost 2 hours after my appointment to finally be gotten around to, and then after telling them I usually had fist sized bruising and lots of pain, they referred me to their most "experienced" nurse there, who assured me it wouldn't hurt, so I relaxed, and then it felt like being punched in the arm by Wolverine. D: D:

Still, not as bad as the time that the nurse punched all the way through my vein, didn't realize why no blood was coming through, and proceeded to twist the needle around until I cried.

I'll be giving soon I was planning on giving this week, but I'm visiting a very desert-y area and I got so dehydrated that my blood pressure went from 120/80 (my normal) to 98/62...I'm remedying that first

I just wanted to pop in here and cheer all you blood-givers on. I have a thing about needles, partly because I have anxiety about doctors/nurses/medical stuff and partly because I have tiny deep veins and blood drawing rarely goes well, but I'm super impressed by everyone who does give blood on a regular basis. :blood1

I also cannot give blood because the locations near me still have MS as a reason for not accepting donations.
Hopefully it will be changed at some point.
Take care of yourself Kitan, it's more important that you are healthy for future donations that trying to donate when you body is not ready!

Do you all think we are going to make out goal for this year!? I think we can still do it, but it is going to take some serious dedication from all our community members! If you need help finding a donation location near you please let me know either here or via PM.

We are at 24 pints donated :joy
We set our goal for 50 pints, so we are just under half way. I think we could still get to our goal, after all there are way more than 26 members here at TV.net. We need to remind everyone to donate by the end of the year and I know we could do it!
