Well, can't really say that I am looking forward to start the arguably most boring book in the series :look

I am however, looking forward to being done with it ^^

Skip the Faile arc and read the Mat parts; it becomes one of the better ones with that :)

The longest Prologue in the whole series, and, unless I am much mistaken, EVERY SINGLE PLOTLINE reacts to the cleansing of the Source :| I get it, it is important and huge, but do we really need to go through that 5 or 6 times :|

This was one of my favorite books when I first read it but I don't remember why (definitely not because of Faile), and hearing how much everyone likes it is making me question my judgement. I guess we'll find out if I still feel the same or not. :look

That was RJ's way of synchronizing the plot timeline for us. As tedious as it was, it gives a clear and definitive time-sync :) ; which is something that was needed after 9 books and two decades of writing ;)

I am going to say yes, considering it is probably the single most important event in the series outside of AMOL.

I like it too. :cheese I understand why people don't like it, but I enjoyed the catch-up aspect of it.

This Prologue is very long, so a week may be needed :look It is at least 100 pages, if I recall correctly...

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue

    Crossroads of Twilight – Prologue

So here we are, the down point of the series. However it is quite understandable for this to be a lower point in the excitement. This book comes after not one but two climaxes. One for Mat where he finally encounters The Daughter of the Nine moons and One for Rand where he cleansed the taint on the Male half of the source. So it makes sense that this book is on the down slope of action. Honestly I don't think the plots in this book are all that bad. I think they are pulled down a bit by the fact that all of them are build. I imagine if one were to graph out the level of action of each of the Point of View characters in almost every book you would find a character who is at a point of high action, one of middle action and one of low action.

    Think about book 1 2 and 3

In book 1 Rand has a far higher action level than Perrin and Rand do, in book 2 Rand is at a very high level of action, while Perrin is rising a bit, and Mat is still very low.

In book 3 Rand is at his Highest, Perrin is rising a bit with meeting Faile and Mat is starting to rise. Extend this to book 4, Rand's action level has dropped a bit starting the Aiel and Couladin storyline, while Perrin is at the highest with The Two rivers.

Now in this book we go from 2 simultaneous storyline of high action to 2 of fairly low action. If you switch Elayne and Mat's chapters in Winter's Heart and Crossroad of Twilight I think the downturn in quality would be helped a bit since Mat's plot of escaping Ebou Dar and meeting Tuon is compelling enough that the breather chapters of Perrin planning to rescue Faile would be a bit more welcome.

    Anyways onto the Prologue proper.

Ituralde – Well we finally get a POV in what is going on what is going on with Arad Domon and Tarabon, and Ituralde is a ballsy SOB wanting to attack the Seanchan knowing they use captive channelers.

Valda – White Cloak check in, nothing too large here but we do need to know what is going on with the various powers and a Prologue is a good place to do that.

Gabrelle – Black Tower check in, When do we get our first Logain POV?

Yukiri – Poor Sitter's your plot goes nowhere and Verin swoops in and steals all of your thunder.

Gawyn – Die in a Fire Gawyn. You know what you do here? You tell your Younglings “These wankers are nuts lets go to Andor and help my Sister. When she is on the throne I will get you all some booze and babes”

Bashere – All I can say here is, I find it odd that the Aiel don't have some sort of loophole to screw with the Andorans. “Oops we needed some food, guess who is closest to us to steal from. Oh dear it just happens to be the ones that are against Elayne..how coincidental.” or “Hey it is not OUR fault that the Arymillia's scouts keep riding over us when we are hiding, she needs to get better scouts who don't keep running into hiding Aiel”

Samitsu – What the heck is Loial and the Ash'aman with him doing here? I am not sure exactly what Loial is up to, we know he went and dealt with the Way Gates..Poorly might I add considering that there is a way to regrow the keys and TRAVELING is a thing now so popping around with Elder Hammen to get them all after the dark one is defeated would be like a week trip at worse. The whole thing is dumb to me especially in Camelyn. Close that crap permanently.

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue

I don't think we get a Logain POV until the Last Battle :look

And yes, this is definitely where Gawyns plotline gets really really bad. He KNOWS deep inside that he is on the WRONG side, and worse, that this side wants you DEAD, and yet he does nothing about it :rolleyes

And yes, Ituralde is a true badass character ^^ He is one of the few highlights in the later series... The way he fought outside and inside Maradon is nothing short of AMAZING. :clap
