New to the city

[Tethys al'Lune]

Hello! I'm Tethys al'Lune, a 21-year-old, soon-to-be-graduating university student. I've been pursuing a degree in publishing from a college in Boston for the past 3 years -- a full summer of classes later, and I'm graduating a semester early in December (Light! I've been busy!). Needless to say, with a degree in publishing, I love to read. I currently work a part time job at Barnes and Noble, and a coworker suggested that I read the Wheel of Time series. I figured it couldn't hurt, since I could use my employee membership to cut costs, so I bought a box set of the first three books. I'm currently reading The Dragon Reborn, and am very glad for the recommendation!

Today, I was window shopping online for an ouroboros ring and happened across a post from someone from TarValon.net -- of course, I had to check the website out after I learned about it, and several hours later here I am introducing myself to you! I've been enthralled by Aes Sedai in the Wheel of Time and found that quite a few of their beliefs matched mine, so I'm very excited at the chance to meet more like-minded folks and maybe eventually be named Aes Sedai. I plan on taking full advantage of the blogs here once I have the opportunity to, using them as a place to document research and training in herbalism, tarot, cooking :P, and maybe even channeling (not as per in the books, but in an earthly/spiritual way).

I can't wait to meet all of you and begin this adventure!
(You'll probably find me in the book discussion forums pretty often!)

Thanks for the warm welcome, I already really like it here. I would be happy to talk about my beliefs -- it might help me figure them out a bit :P As a bit of background: when I was younger, my friends and I really wanted to be witches and go to Hogwarts. Instead of that, we tried practicing pagan magic. Eventually, they grew out of it, but I still practiced very loosely, and on-and-off for several years. I haven't considered myself a follower of any type of religion for a few years now, and I understand my beliefs less now than ever. I would love to talk with folks though! As I said, it'll probably help me articulate what I feel (so both you and I can understand!)

Out of curiosity, what made you interested in joining Tar Valon as an Accepted?

They didnt. They joined as a citizen. Later they became novices and then bribed... err... worked their way up to accepted.

Well, I joined the same way you did, as a pre-citizen I joined once before but never got too far the first time in 2010 because my life was crazy, but then last year I came across a shawl making guide that Kitan Sedai had posted in and it reminded me of this place and so I decided to join again I'm a big WoT fan, I really like how many different countries, historic references and religions he used as inspiration for his ideas, and I love the idea of the Pattern. I'd love to hear about your beliefs because I'm interested in so many things that its hard to nail something down (although I've been raised christian but finding Judaism as my path). I love studying other cultures and religions though

As far as being an accepted, once you are a citizen for I think its 3 months you can apply to join the Tower, and so far its been a great experience! But you'll need to get 25 posts to be able to apply for citizenship, which shouldn't be too hard Also if you need help finding an avatar or getting a sig done we'll be glad to help with that too

Thanks again for the welcome! Sorry for the confusion in my last post! I knew about the ranking system, but I was a bit tired/bad at articulating thoughts -- I *meant* to ask what made you interested in *becoming* an Accepted but you're awesome (Alora) and answered my intended question despite the very confused wording.

Do you plan on becoming Aes Sedai? (This is a question for ALL of the ladies ) I'm very interested in eventually joining their ranks, but would love to hear others' motivation, too!

For me it is where I feel at home, where I can be myself fully without changing who I am to fit in. Also, I experienced that when I need a push in the right direction, I get that, when a hand to help pull me up is needed, that's what I get, and if I needed someone to listen, there are always Sisters who will be there for me.
