After sleeping on this I, too, am ready to speak....

Melissa you have done what few people can do; make a pipe dream come true. As a White I do have a few logical, lucid moments (yes it is true!) and I'm having one now....you have been a Servant to All in a big way for a long time and it's time for you to take care of you. We will adapt because we are Aes Sedai (and Gaidin). I will completely support you in this decision and although I don't hold an official position I will do what I can in my own little way to help make this transition easier (think bringing a case of kleenax for all to share to Anni!) After my initial selfish sadness I am now incredibly happy for you!



Now, go make some babies!

I think there should be a good balance of support and excitement for dear Eleyan, but also a good reminder that someone WILL be stepping into her position, and someone WILL need the support of the community. Simply saying that you can't accept anyone else is pretty short sighted.

I really did think this was an april fool's joke (I'm sure others will think the same) and now that I'm coming to see that this isn't (having read your second post in here) I can only say that I wish that I had joined Tar Valon sooner and I hope that I get the chance to meet and get to know you once you've passed the stole on to another.

I've been a member of the site for less than a year, and I've never met you in person, so perhaps I am not qualified to make any kind of statement. But from reading what everyone else has written here, I can't deny that this outpouring of love and sadness at your announcement is a testament to the impression others have of you and how much you mean to them.

It is strange to think of the Amyrlin's stole on someone else's shoulders, but I'm glad that your resignation will not mean losing your presence on this site. As everyone has said so far, without you, we wouldn't be here. Change may be hard to accept in the beginning but change is good, and I hope that this change will bring you everything you hope for.

So thank you for giving us a wonderful community and family, Mother. I hope in the future I'll get a chance to meet you and thank you in person.

I'm blown away. I thought it was an April Fools joke until I read your second post. I still kind of can't believe it, though I do. No she hasn't died, but people have a right to their feelings. At this point in time I cannot imagine calling anyone else Mother Simple fact and no need to try and make us feel bad about it. This isn't just a change of Head of Ajah or something :P And there is nothing wrong with expressing how much Melissa has meant to this community I'll be happy having you a sister of the Green though! <3 And we'll see what happens when the person trying to fill your shoes is chosen! I'm sure it will go just fine. Melissa you deserve to live your life free of the stress and all of the bad aspects of being Amrylin has been and I hope you are much happier without that weight on your shoulders

Mother, I've never met you, spoken to you on IRC only once, and never otherwise talked to you at all, but you've been someone I've looked up to since I first joined. Thank you so much for this site that I found right at the beginning of the craziest spot in my life where I needed the support the most that I found here. When I stumbled upon this site in 2008, I had no idea of the sheer extent of this. I have seen how this site bands together to help people in time of need. I have seen how it copes with loss. I have seen how it supports even those it does not know. I have also seen how it has affected me, and how every individual here is supported by the people with this site. And I can honestly say that this place is one of the few things getting me through my Master's degree!

I can say that I am a sister here, that I am Brown. I say that with pride. I think it would have been a different thing all together had you not set real life friendships and support as a goal when you first became affiliated with this place.

Whoever is chosen as the next Amyrlin has some mighty large shoes to fill.
