Changes to the Ajahs

There are a couple hints in the book about where the Ajahs will go in the future. The Red Ajah will probably work more with the Asha'man. And it was mentioned that the Gray Ajah claimed Traveling to be their thing.

It got me thinking that the Green Ajah will probably have to change focus/purpose as well now that the Last Battle has happened.

So what changes do you think the Ajahs could possibly make?

Most of the Aes Sedai are dead, and Leane was remarking near the end how they were all working in close unison. I think if anything, Ajah would become a curious note in your background, like where you went to college or grew up, as opposed to a large part of your future work or goals. It would require a restructuring of the government of the Tower. When you only have about a hundred sisters to govern, with likely a couple Ajahs brought to near extinction, I can't see it being a huge distinction anymore.

This coupled with the Dragon's Peace, which wholly left the Aes Sedai out as mediators strangely, I'm not sure what will become of the White Tower - or the Ajahs.

Many of them are dead, but there are around a thousand novices, many of whom are older women who seem to learn quicker than the young girls they have traditionally used do. If they continue their active recruiting, they could easily have ten times that number

I'm hoping that the bargain Egwene made with the Wise Ones and the Sea Folk still hold. Cross training is imperative in my eyes.

We don't know too much about how Aes Sedai became Aes Sedai in the Age of Legends, but it seems as if they were one lump group. I can totally see that happening in the future. It might help to avoid future divisions in the Tower.

The Ajahs don't need to change that much.

Everyone knows the Wheel is cyclic.

Somebody's still going to have to protect the DR.

Somebody's still going to have to mediate, be logical, heal the sick, study the books, train for battle (just in case).

I don't think the Ajahs are going to be too much different. They will change, certainly. But the feuding Ajah syndrome will ebb away, and the White Tower will be a more cohesive unit.

Aes Sedai were all in one lump group. You were just an Aes Sedai. The word Ajah means "a group of people grouped together for a common goal, or similar beliefs", and they did form those groups back in the Age of Legends, but they weren't concrete.

I'd like to see a White Tower where there are no Ajahs, but I think that the surviving Aes Sedai won't really be able to understand such a concept, so the Ajahs as they were will still exist.

I wonder if the Ashaman will have something similar to the Ajahs.
And what will happen with the two towers.

I suppose whether or not the Ajah-structures will change depends entirely on how many Sisters are left alive withing the various ajah.

If they've been decimated to the point that some Ajah are underpopulated or entirely eradicated, that would force the issue, and then they'll have to change, somehow. If every Ajah has enough members to function, they'll probably remain. I do believe that cooperation between the seven groups will increase dramatically, though, after this. Considering the Tower's leadership ... Cadsuane's pragmatic, and doesn't seem to care a lot about which ajah people belong to, as long as they're competent. Other influential leaders such as Saerin, Yukiri, Pevara and Seaine have shown a willingness to cooperate across Ajah boundaries. Powers that have opposed such cooperation, such as Romanda, have died.

The Red Ajah can still work with men who can channel, albeit in a different way. They'll probably change the most. The Dark One may be sealed away, but there are still Darkfriends and there, and there will probably always be, so the Green Ajah will probably start hunting those. The other Ajah can still do what they've done and provide a function.

What I would like to see, is an option to change Ajah as your interests may shift over time. Seeing as Leane did this, there's precedence. Maybe in the future that won't have to be proceeded by an unlawful stilling. Someone might start out wanting to fight Darkfriends, and thus join the Green Ajah. A 100 years later, the same woman might wish to focus on Healing, and thus could change to Yellow Ajah. That would feel pretty ideal, to me.

Whats to change? Really?

Of course the Reds wont be hunting down Male channelers in Randland but what about Shara? Lets not forget there is still a massive hostile nation out there who sided with the shadow during TG. Even if the nations arent ready to fight i cannot see the Seanchen or the Aiel allowing the Sharans to live in peace.

The Blue Ajah will be needed now more than ever, Rand forged his alliance to fight TG and even with the Dragons peace its a flimsy arrangement at best and only scheduled to last for 100 years. Their meddling will be needed.

The Yellow's have a whole age of development ahead, with stronger channelers and healers emerging and new types of healing being discovered in almost every book i can see little reason for them to change drastically as an Ajah

The Greens, again there are the Sharans to be dealt with, also we know that other minions of the DO survived TG and even if these are eradicated there is still call for the Battle Ajah to act as peace keepers through out Randland and beyond.

The White Ajah, as the world enters the fourth age i can only imagine that the whites will become more influential as greater weaves are discovered and new technologies are invented.

The Browns, well they have a whole Age of prophecy, war, love, struggle and strife to catalogue and record.

The Greys, even with the Dragons peace i can only imagine that the Greys will have more work to do than ever maintaining the peace, the people are afterall only human, and we are an unpedictable fickle race at best.

Thats justmy take anyway :)

My imagination sees them as becoming more like public servants and college professors.

The Greens are patrolling the world for roving bands of shadowspawn.

The Yellows are starting hospitals, integrating herbal methods with weaves.

The Grays are attempting to keep the nations civil with each other (I don't remember The Dragon's Peace mentioning trade wars).

The Whites and Browns continue to do their historical, geographical, and philosophical studies.

The Reds would augment local authorities when it comes to criminal channelers.

The Blues, having the most extensive network of eyes and ears, would be tracking down darkfriend plots.

Had this thought, too: The Blues and Whites would be putting together arguments and, in essence, contending with Seanchan "Emissaries" seeking to convince channelers to be collared.

The Asha'man would be excellent for assisting the Reds and Greens with their duties. There would have to be extensive negotiations leading to a compact between them. It would be neat to see exchange programs with the purpose of researching linking Saidin and Saidar to do great building projects as well as healing, crop enhancements, and blending science with channeling.

I'm still hoping for a whole new Grey Tower where White and Black combine. Men and women channelers should work side by side like they did in the Age of Legend!
