Rhed al'Tere
Aes Sedai
It’s with no little sadness that it falls to me to announce that Vivianna al’Lantreau has submitted her resignation as Amyrlin to the Board of Directors. In our most recent Board meeting on June 8, we accepted her resignation.
Viv, we want to say thank you for all you've done in the past 2.5 years, and the 10 months or so before that while training. You've always shown passion for this community. You've been Amyrlin through some difficult circumstances, but you've been very good at keeping it together, circling the wagons, and doing the hard jobs. We will miss your leadership, hard work, and passion. We appreciate your willingness to stay on until the integration initiative is complete and to train your successor, and we hope to be able to work with you again in the future.
In light of this announcement, the Board of Directors is now starting the process of hiring the next Amyrlin/CEO of TarValon.net.
As we did with the last Amyrlin hiring, we will be offering a packet of additional information that’s a little more in-depth than what’s posted here. Anyone is free to request the packet; simply send an email to board@tarvalon.net AND amyrlin@tarvalon.net with the subject line AMYRLIN PACKET REQUEST. Please note, the Board is still making changes to the packet, so it might be a day or two before we can send it, but packets will be sent by Saturday.
To allow ample time for answering questions from potential applicants, there will be two weeks between the closing of packet requests and the opening of the official application period.
Our timeline is as follows:
July 13: Packet requests end
August 1: Hiring officially opens
August 24: Application period ends
Mid-September: Announce decision
Anni 2015: New Amyrlin officially inducted into office
Qualifications
Essential
These requirements reflect the necessity of knowing our history, why and how it developed, and give us a minimum record of time to view how the applicant has handled membership conflicts, sensitive information, etc.
Nonessential, but nice
Please note: Neither gender nor nationality is a factor in choosing the Amyrlin/CEO.
Now, for the job description. From the Bylaws:
Position Duties (per Membership Manual)
Again, to request a packet of more information, please email board@tarvalon.net AND amyrlin@tarvalon.net.

Now, for the job description. From the Bylaws:
The President shall be the principal executive officer of the corporation and, subject to the control of the Board of Directors, shall in general supervise and control all of the business and affairs of the corporation. He or she shall, when present, preside at meetings of the Board of Directors if the Chairman of the Board is not present or if there is no Chairman of the Board. He or she shall sign, with the Secretary or any other proper officer of the corporation thereunto authorized by the Board of Directors, any deeds, mortgages, bonds, contracts, or other instruments which the Board of Directors has authorized to be executed, except in cases where the signing and execution thereof shall be expressly delegated by the Board of Directors or by these bylaws to some other officer or agent to the corporation, or shall be required by law to be otherwise signed or executed; and in general he or she shall perform all duties incident to the office of President and such other duties as they may be prescribed by the Board of Directors from time to time. The powers and responsibilities vested by law in the position of President shall be conferred upon the office of Chief Executive Officer.
Position Duties (per Membership Manual)
- Providing cohesive leadership for the organization as a whole, keeping perspective and vision (goal setting, making sure all parts are working together toward the same objectives, ensuring those objectives serve our mission statement and organizational health, communicating these goals effectively across the community).
- Creating and stewarding our culture (decision-making that profoundly affects how members interact, promoting a culture of cooperation and personal investment, helping members to grow relationships with one another). This is the single most influential position when it comes to how the community "feels."
- Team building among our volunteers and throughout the community
- Managing resources, including overseeing the budget, human resources, and time resources. (Are the projects we're working on the ones we should be working on? What is the cost/benefit and is it worth it? When do we put our efforts toward a new solution, and when do we pull the plug on something that hasn't worked?)
- Liaison between the Board of Directors and the community as needed
- Being the public face of TarValon.Net (officiating ceremonies, special awards and recognition, master of ceremonies, event host, developing relationships that benefit the organization, shaking hands, kissing babies, etc.)
Again, to request a packet of more information, please email board@tarvalon.net AND amyrlin@tarvalon.net.
