As per this post stating the changes to Euro Party, I am opening the bidding process for 2024.

Do you know just the right city for a fantastic party? Is there a historic hotel you think would be cool to stay in? Please let us know about it!
Fill out this form and if your bid is of interest to us, we will contact you for further information. If there are some details you don't know, just say so and we can get back to it.

Keep in mind that we are accepting bids for a Tourist party. Events will be hotel based and will require only minimal, as needed, assistance from our bid submitter or willing volunteer. These tasks may include phoning the chosen hotel with predetermined questions, making a reservation at a restaurant after registration closes, etc.

Things to keep in mind when submitting a bid:
  • Typical events take place from Friday (afternoon) to Sunday (morning), and will be held mid summer to early fall.
  • Tourist events are generally held in a hotel style venue and in a location with easily accessible sites to see. Traditionally these have only one catered meal that we may ask for assistance in planning.
  • Normal Euro attendance is between 12 and 30 people.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an email events@tarvalon.net.

Deadline: FEBRUARY 23, 2024 MARCH 11, 2024

As of now, I do not have any bids for a Euro Party in 2024.

I will leave this open for an additional 2 weeks - to March 11, 2024. If you want a Euro Party, please put in a bid!

It's a shame. I would like to, but no way I'm handling it on my own

I've been thinking about this as the changes make it much more suitable for my area however... it doesn't say when this is supposed to happen?
We have the Ghent Festival in July, which is quite an event to witness, though may be a bit much for some (dunno).
If it is August/September, it might be too difficult for me to get off work (Exams and start new academic year). October might be feasable but at the end of it but that then poses the risk of bad weather...

So yeah, it would be good to know when this is supposed to happen?

We have no set time period thought we are aiming for late summer/early fall.

If there's no set time then earlier in the summer should work.
If the times were more flexible, then maybe more people would offer?

I’m sorry there’s so much confusion around this.

If there is something close to you that you think would work for a Euro party and it’s in July or November (good weather permitting) please bid. Just because I say we are aiming for late summer or early fall doesn’t mean that is the only time period acceptable. From past experience, giving folks something to aim for has helped, clearly that isn’t the case here.

Side note: it’s interesting the different months that means to people. Where I am late summer/early fall is more August/September. Again, my apologies for being unclear. I hope this helps.

ok, I'll see if I can make a bid for Mid July then (start of the Ghent Festival = 19-21 July). I may take till after the weekend, I have a guest coming from the UK next week and I need to clean up my pigsty...

I work at the university, and Aug/Sept is the period of the Exam re-takes and Sept/Oct is the start of the new Academic year. So those are very busy times for me and I don't have time to do much else then.

I can't commit to anything this year until I know what's going on with my medical nonsense but next year, you're all coming to Leeds :braid:

What is there to do in Leeds (any museums or such) is there perhaps a good tourist guide you could recommend? Or if not is it far from London (how to get there)?

While I was mostly joking because Leeds is the nearest city to me (& also, don't even think about it for this year because if y'all are five minutes from my house while I'm in hospital I am going to be pissed off to the highest level of pisstivity) it is a pretty cool place to visit.

Leeds has it's own airport but also has a direct train line to London, that'll get you to Kings' Cross in around 2 hours - my MIL would regularly fly from Schiphol, stay in Leeds for a couple of days (lots of hotels near the station), get the train down to London, spend a few days there and then come back and fly home from Leeds. I can't speak for how far it is from places if you were driving but it's also 30 minutes on (a very pretty and picturesque) train to Harrogate and about the same again to York if you're wanting to explore outside of the city.

Leeds itself has lots of museums, art galleries, historic houses, great shops (though, the dedicated bookworms might want to pop over to Waterstones in next door Bradford, since it is one of the prettiest bookshops around) and if you can think of it, you can probably find a place to eat it.

Most relevant to Tower interests would likely be the Royal Armouries which is walking distance from the station (or 5 minutes in an Uber if you're me :look: ) and has a vast collection of stabby things, Tropical World, which is about 15 minutes in a taxi or a bit longer on the bus, and has a lot of critters and butterflies and is surrounded by lovely parks. Other than that, it depends on what tickles your pickle, and I'm probably not the best judge of that since I rarely leave the house

I am 110% down for a flight to London and a train to Leeds next year :look:

I also happen to be going to Glasgow in August and would be willing to try to put something together, with the caveat that I'm definitely not a local (and don't live in or near the EU) and so maybe shouldn't be bidding for Euro Party...

As an added incentive: I should have a pair of small, floofy things by then that will require many pets.

Also, I'm going to spoiler this in case it's too filthy for announcements: even better than two baby Ragdolls, the chance for a pilgrimage to 69 Dick Lane. It's not much more than a dirty back alley (ahem) but it's an experience you'd not forget. There might need to be commemorative t-shirts.
