I've always wanted to go to Leeds :) My dad has been a fan of Leeds United since they won the League (so about 50 years now ;) ) and has been there many times, but I haven't been yet.

And any place in the UK will have several historic sites to explore :)

I won't be able to organise this after all. I'm unexpectedly suddenly moving to a new place (first time moving in 32 years, so nervous as hell) the coming months so need to spend my time organising that first. I came across a 'too good to let go' appartment so I had to act or regret it later.

While I was mostly joking because Leeds is the nearest city to me (& also, don't even think about it for this year because if y'all are five minutes from my house while I'm in hospital I am going to be pissed off to the highest level of pisstivity) it is a pretty cool place to visit.

Leeds has it's own airport but also has a direct train line to London, that'll get you to Kings' Cross in around 2 hours - my MIL would regularly fly from Schiphol, stay in Leeds for a couple of days (lots of hotels near the station), get the train down to London, spend a few days there and then come back and fly home from Leeds. I can't speak for how far it is from places if you were driving but it's also 30 minutes on (a very pretty and picturesque) train to Harrogate and about the same again to York if you're wanting to explore outside of the city.

Leeds itself has lots of museums, art galleries, historic houses, great shops (though, the dedicated bookworms might want to pop over to Waterstones in next door Bradford, since it is one of the prettiest bookshops around) and if you can think of it, you can probably find a place to eat it.

Most relevant to Tower interests would likely be the Royal Armouries which is walking distance from the station (or 5 minutes in an Uber if you're me :look: ) and has a vast collection of stabby things, Tropical World, which is about 15 minutes in a taxi or a bit longer on the bus, and has a lot of critters and butterflies and is surrounded by lovely parks. Other than that, it depends on what tickles your pickle, and I'm probably not the best judge of that since I rarely leave the house
Love Leeds, the underground market was great.
