US 10th Anni Charity Drives - and a request!

We had an amazing US 10th Anni. Not only was it a blast (check out the Anni forum for pics, memories, etc!) but we also did a lot of good, philanthropy-wise.

Our events are always fairly significant drives for the site, and this year that was especially true. Between our silent auction, da'covale auction, and other donations to the site - including a very awesome donation from the Beer Tasting crew - we brought in $5,352! :joy

We also held a drive for a charity local to Charleston. This year we selected Crisis Ministries, a shelter that RJ and Harriet have supported for many years. Harriet herself recommended this organization to us for this drive. For this, we collected donations from members, and auctioned off a special item that Brandon volunteered - the highest bidder being eaten by a trolloc in ToM! We were able to raise $800 for this charity. Because we did so well, our Board also approved a $200 donation from TarValon.Net, making our final contribution to Crisis Ministries $1,000. This is an amazing accomplishment! :joy

And.....we also have another request for assistance! Harriet also recommended Trident Literacy to us, but we weren't able to support both them and Crisis Ministries. However! Trident Literacy has a very specific need right now, that Harriet brought to our attention at Anni. They need 12 copies of a book called "Henry Perry Gets a Job". It looks like we can get this online for about $150 total (if anyone finds a better deal somewhere else, please let us know!) which is totally doable for us. This is something that we could probably handle from our own operating budget, but I know that there was specific interest expressed by some members to assist with this. So, if you would like to contribute some money towards purchasing these books, please contact Branwyn at memberphilanthropy@tarvalon.net. Just let her know how much you can donate (be sure to include your Tower name) and she'll let you know what to do from there. Once we reach the $150, we'll close off donations. If you still want to contribute even after we've reached our cap, I'd recommend holding onto it for later! We are interested in running a larger drive for them in the future.

As always, thank you everyone for your generosity. We totally rocked our drives this year at Anni! :horsey

Great job everyone and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so proud of and grateful for each of you as our group keeps astounding me with your generosity! What a wonderful thing that we can all do together when we throw in a few dollars. We didn't think we could get more than a few hundred dollars for Crisis, and here we have $1,000!!! How WONDERFUL!!! I'm really happy to be able to help out this organization which is fantastic!

:joy :joy :joy :dance :joy :joy :joy

I've recieve a few emails from people who are interested in helping out with the books for Trident, please keep the emails coming! Those books will help countless adults learn to read and advance their lives.

:)

Another great opportunity to open the world of books to people. Helping those of Trident with these books will do just that.

Or 2 people donating $25 or 1 person donating $50 :cheeseeni:

It doesn't matter, though, it's all about the charity :D

I was trying to break it down into how many people it would take to meet the $100 that was left so that maybe more people would donate. I totally failed. :P

This! We really like seeing lots of little donations, because it shows that lots of people giving what they can can make a big difference! But in the end, we just want to help where we can. In this case, it's getting these books to Trident Literacy, so they can continue to make a difference in the lives of both kids and adults. We can do that with the help of a few or many - but so long as we do it, we're making an impact!

As a Charlestonian, please accept my thanks

Alan and I give our support to both those charities. (Indeed, I am a Trident Literacy volunteer.) Crisis Ministries does an amazing job, from their soup kitchen to the shelter and the other services they offer. On behalf of my community, thank you.

And for those who are interested, here are links to both:

(Though I'm a newbie here, I'm an veteran when it comes to giving service ;) )
