Because fire-breathing dragons melt even my cold Red heart . . .
More seriously, the Red and the Blue are indeed joining forces in support of animals, domestic and wild, along with their environment. This relates to personal interests for some of us, while also being a broad topic with many different ways to contribute. Animals are too often overlooked, neglected, outright mistreated, and may also be affected by loss of habitat, pollution, and so on.
So, how might we help? Possible organizations to support or actions to take include:
-Local humane societies and animal rescue groups
-Fostering domestic animals until they can be adopted
-Trap/neuter/release for feral cats
-Organizations that provide veterinary care and rehabilitation to injured wild animals
-Helping owners with economic hardship maintain their animals
-Groups conserving open space and habitat
-Creating backyard wildlife habitat
-Wildlife sanctuaries
-Animal welfare groups
Of course some groups are quite local with a specific focus, while some organizations are national or international in scope.
Here are a few organizations with a broader scope:

- World Wildlife Fund - Our mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth.
- ANCCOB Saves Seabirds - to reverse the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds – especially endangered species like the African penguin.
- APOPO and their HeroRats - addresses global issues through research, development and deployment of scent detection technology at its training and research center in Tanzania and seven other countries.
- Animal Welfare Institute - Find Your Legislator, view their animal welfare-related legislative decisions, and see how much compassion they show on important animal protection measures currently before Congress. The Compassion Index also allows you to contact your legislators on these issues.
