[And now that we have an incoming TVT Editor...it's time for a TVT staff rotation! A message from the current Editor:]

The Tar Valon Times is seeking staff!

The Department of Marketing is looking for new reporters to create content for the Tar Valon Times from January 2012 until June 2012. This is an awesome way to dive into life at Tar Valon, and to show the community your own take on things. This is also a great way for Junior Members to complete their contribution to the site. So come on! Apply!

TVT Staff
This is a 6-month staff position within the Department of Marketing. In this position you will create content for the Tar Valon Times. Said content can come in a variety of different media, such as articles, regular columns, or art, limited only by your own creativity and the rules and regulations of TarValon.Net.

Job Specifics
  • Actively search for and share ideas that will be interesting and informative for TarValon.Net members. Articles can cover topics from the Wheel of Time, the community, reviews, or anything random you can think up, as long as it would be interesting to the membership in general. Unconventional ideas are wonderful![/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Contribute a minimum of 3 pieces of content during the term, or maintain a regular column for the duration.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Adhere to set deadlines, and communicate with the Editor if something occurs to prevent publication of your content.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Communicate regularly with the Editor regarding your work, her work, and anything that comes up in the course of your job.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]

Qualifications
  • Anyone of any rank or position may apply; there is no membership time limit.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Facility with your chosen medium is a must; for example, if you write, you need to be able to do so clearly in English. Creative flair and a joy for writing and/or creating art are definitely awesome additions.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Experience with writing and/or creating art is a definite plus but not required.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]
  • Ability to dedicate the necessary time to complete your contributions to the TVT is mandatory.[/*:m:2tglzzpi]

How to Apply
Send an email to editor@tarvalon.net, marketing@tarvalon.net, and keeper@tarvalon.net with the subject set as "APPLICATION - TVT STAFF - YOURNAMEHERE," detailing why you are qualified to be a reporter, with two samples of your writing and/or creative endeavors. In addition, include two examples of possible content which you would be willing to work on in the future. We will be accepting applications through Wednesday, December 26, 2010.

Regarding the samples: Any two samples which show a proficient command of the English language in a writing situation or which show your creative abilities in another medium may be submitted. It may be an excerpt or a full article/paper, an essay you've written for school, art you have created, or projects you have worked on. Remember that however much is submitted and in whichever form, it will be used to gauge your capability as a reporter for the Tar Valon Times.

The writing sample may be attached as a .doc, .txt or .pdf file, uploaded online with link provided, or just copied and pasted into your email at the bottom. A graphical sample may be emailed as an attachment, or you may supply a link to where it is hosted online.

If there are any questions, or you would like to work out an arrangement to be a guest author for the TVT, please email the Editor at editor@tarvalon.net.

As a note: If you don't have writing samples, that's fine. Just make sure that your application proves that you can write well-ish, and that's good enough. Doesn't have to be super-long, either! I'm pretty much willing to accept anyone, since I'm willing to take the time to edit and stuff. <3

If you write three articles, that counts as a JM contribution, and if you already have a contribution or if you're an SM, then you're not obligated to write anything (but I will kick you out at the end of the term if you don't do anything :P). And if you write a lot (20 articles (don't worry, you don't have to do it in one term, this is overall at your time at the Tower), you get a shiny merit badges. \o/ So go forth and apply!

I also hand out cookies.

Quick question Editor Gaidin, is it acceptable to send you articles etc on an adhoc basis? I ask because I can't really guarantee that I'd have the time to commit to a 'permanent' post due to the nature of my irregular work pattern. Sometimes my brain actually comes up with coherent stuff that might interest/entertain people and some of it may even be publishable! :D

I think a lot of the staff do that, Belg. You really just need one article to prevent from being kicked off the team. Or three if you still need your contribution.

As Stephen said, most of the staff does something similar to that. I always say that it's preferable to be on the team rather than not, because then you'll know what everyone else is writing, and what kinds of articles might be needed. It's not as if super-sensitive stuff is discussed in the Tar Valon Times forum, so having access to it isn't that big of a deal!

What's with all the talk about Swedish cookies, recently? I feel our cookies are getting too much attention from abroad.

I don't know what Swedish cookies are. :cheeseeni: But Ariana, if those are the type of cookies that you want, I will be more than happy to oblige. <3

I think I'd better pass on applying for this term. :/ I have a minimum of about 300 pages to look forward to Nano-ing for next semester. That's everything for school, including my thesis. :(
