Season 3 so far (SPOILERS for all released episodes!)

I loved the first three episodes. I loved we FINALLY got to see a waygate being used right and it looked FANTASTIC! I loved Loial’s comment, it was epic.
It was relatively close to the source materials considering the obvious changes (they clearly decided to forget about portal stones and the red doors… I wonder how Moirain will disappear and Mat will be hanged).

The battle between Mat and the princes wasn’t as epic as in the books with everyone watching, but it was SO SATISFYING to watch! The actor really did a fantastic job with the quarterstaff. Assuming that was not CGI, it must have taken A LOT of practice!

I loved the portrayal of Elaida. I was skeptical at first because I thought she would be better suited for the role of Cadsuane, but I can’t deny she’s doing a fantastic job (I love her in every role, really, so I’m not surprised).

I loved that they introduced Faile, but I didn’t hear Ruarc and Amis actually say their names (or maybe I missed that?).

 

[Idine Espanyas]

I thought the first episode was a tad slow but by the end of the third I was so disappointed that it was all over. It was exciting seeing all the new characters. Great actors. I thought the pacing was good. Man the scene with Morgase in the throne room was savage but so epic. I can’t wait for the next episodes!!!

 

[Megana Vallentin]

Agree, that was my one quibble with it was that they didn't have an audience to be humbled before and they didn't get the sage advice from Hammar, but otherwise it was fantastic. But oh my goodness when the Horn of Valere music came up it brought back my season 2 feels so fast.

Man the scene with Morgase in the throne room was savage but so epic.

SO MUCH.

 

[Veluene al'Myr]

I absolutely loved every minute of it. Clearly they had a higher budget so the costumes and sets were more detailed, and the way it was shot was more cinematic I thought.

It's now so hard to have favourites, but if I had to try - Elaida naturally, Galad is so handsome its hard to think straight, Lanfear was excellent, Faile is the most enchanting woman with those eyes and voice, Perrin clearly got a glow up and Rands darkness is more visible and thus that much more intriguing.

Mat's mannerisms and jokes are a highlight too. He really makes me believe he's Mat and I love him for it. The Aiel, all of them, were wonderful. I giggled when they tried to play maidens kiss with Loial oh and the wise ones were how I imagined in my head for the most part.

I do think they did Min dirty however, the most unflattering outfit and her makeup/hair are really bad. Also she was probably rhe weakest in terms of acting. I wonder if she annoyed someone on set or if they want to give her a glow up later.

Okay I'm ranting and will stop now because it's midnight and I'm so tired, but had to write something before bed.

I love Perrin! In the books I find him tiresome but I love how this actor portrays him.

I also adore this new actor for Matt.

And Siuan is perfect as always.

Dont worry, they haven't forgotten the red doors. Rewatch the bit where Min has a vision of Mat. Also, the there was a casting announcement the other day for an Eelfinn.

The costumes! OMG the costumes!!!!

The scene with Siuan and Mat had me giggling. She wasn't even really trying to be subtle.

I'm honestly surprised, but very pleased that Lord Luc has already been introduced and they're not dragging things out with more and more folks getting eaten by trollocs.

Suian's scene with Mat was perfection lol.

The costumes! OMG the costumes!!!!

OMG Morgase’s dress in the White Tower was EPIC! God, that collar! I WANT IT FOR EVERY SUITE I OWN!

Also LOVED their depiction of Tanchico! My players were just there so I immediately took a picture and sent it to them! It was immediately recognized. They even put in the circles and everything!

Since they reshuffled the order a bit, any predictions about Tear?
My guess is the Black Ajah will get the bracelet and go to Tear to try and ambush Rand when he comes for Calandur.

Well, I definitely wasn’t disappointed. As someone who didn’t like the show in season 1, it’s surprising how much I like it now. It really seemed to me like the end of season 2 should be called, everyone is finally cool. So much happened in that one episode to just massively change my mind about WoT on the small screen. I love Matt’s lesson in why staves and spears suck to fight with swords. I loved the massive power battle at the start of the first episode. I like what they are doing with Elaida. I’m going to have to do a rewatch because I’m sure there are things I missed and want to talk about.

OH MY FROG THE OPENING TO THE FIRST EPISODE IS SO GOOD

Leane bashing her staff like a pinata! Ugh channelling with her staff as a focus(?) at the same time? So freaking cool.

Alanna showing what a Green should be like with her hot Warders! The fights were SO GOOD.

Liandrin nearly dying like 50 times!

Ok we've watched two episodes and now it's bedtime.

My gurl Egwene was done dirty with those arches, she deserves the same treatment as Nynaeve with hers! But I like how Gurlboss she was about telling them she wants them, then flipping the proverbial bird. I love when she's like "I WOULD KILL RENNA AGAIN". YES.

Oh yeah I screamed at Elayne and Aviendha. YAAAASS my queen good for you. I love this.

I'm a bit confused by Perrin's hair.

If I wasn't gay before seeing Galad, then I am now. I hate him but also I'd be one of those Novices watching and swooning.

I just asked my partner what he thinks (he's only started book 2) . He says he really wants to keep reading after watching. He's also enjoyed the fight scenes and the various Warders in action... Also "is Perrin just walking everywhere for another season?"

I probably have other thoughts but it's late. I'll be rewatching the start of episode 1 again for sure. Excited for episode 3 tomorrow!

In the middle of a rewatch of Episodes 2 and 3!

Mat has truly hit his stride, and I am 100% here for it! His lapses into the Old Tongue, getting roasted by Siuan, playing Maiden's Kiss, and the fight with Galad/Gawyn drew some of my loudest reactions.

The Forsaken are all spot-on so far, except I thought Rahvin would be taller. With Semirhage's name dropped, that leaves us with one left to be determined. While Semirhage is probably my favorite Forsaken, I'm bummed that we aren't getting both Demandred and Asmodean. Maybe some form of Taimandred later?

Elayne's speech where she tells Morgase about her intent to become an Aes Sedai, but at the end she says "my path will always lead back to the Lion Throne" was really powerful. Amazing performance from both actors.

The level of detail has been staggering so far! I loved the opening/closing of the Waygate with the trefoil leaf, and Loial's comment about "much better without all that blasted channeling." Also in the shot above Tar Valon that shows the very top of the White Tower, the same symbol from the center of the Hall of the Tower was a nice touch.

Finally, the costumes! Anyone who wants proof that Sharon Gilham deserves an Emmy need look no further than Rhuarc, Sammael, Elaida, Alanna, the gals in Eggy's Accepted test, and pretty much everyone in Tanchico.

I loved that scene between Siuan and Mat. She was also one of my fave book characters but she’s definitely one of my favorite show characters.

She costumes are so freaking epic. I need to figure out how to make some of those, stat. Even some of the simple dresses that Nyn and Elayne wear before going back to the Tower are so pretty.

Do we know if it has been renewed for Season 4?

Watching the third episode:

I SCREAMED the biggest scream that was ever scrumpt when Rahvin name dropped Semirhage. I'd given up the idea of her being included as one of the Chosen, she probably won't show for another season but I am HYPED AS ALL HECK. I cannot WAIT.

My love for Leane continues. Her resting bitch face is everything, and her going to see the Reds was great too. Zero frogs were given. She's such a cool character.

Speaking of Reds though - I love the attention they've been getting, seeing the inner workings of the Ajah is something more nuanced than the "Blue good, Red bad" dialogue in the books.

Also enjoyed Liandrin in this episode. Gatecrashing a wedding? Heck yeah. Casually murdering everyone there? I'm not mad at it.

I wish we'd seen more of Elayne's arches or at least heard about them.

Enjoying it a lot so far!

I watched all 3 eps yesterday and I already want to rewatch - so much happened that I am sure I missed things

One very small thing I appreciated - during Nynaeve's accepted test it bugged me that "be steadfast" wasn't said and I was so happy to hear it said to Egwene!

I shouted Go Big Green at my TV several times cause Alanna's a BAMF!

Alanna is literally my favorite show character, which is cray because I do not like her in book. Honestly same for Liandrian, she has just been a stand out. I'm a huge Red Ajah stan in the books and the show is making me so happy!

Also, did it seem to anyone else that they are trying to retcon the stuff they did with Mat's family? Or like maybe after he left his parents decided to not be crappy anymore?

Was absolutely wild we got this confirmation to me of our final Forsaken count . . . at this stage. Also, really speaks to me that Lanfear didn't invite 'the girls'. Almost seems like someone is threatened by competing attention from women. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Rafe's show making me love the Reds is such a wonderful thing, and it doesn't begin or end with Galina being so, so VERY . . . Irish (but it sure helps).

Done 2 rewatches of Episodes 1-2 already and I can't believe I'm still picking up content from them. They're so good, the intrigue, the depth, it's what I love about good television. And Alanna being an absolute badass is not the least of it.

I think they're trying to . . . maybe not retcon but add depth? Something about how when things were fine in the Two Rivers, they were at their worst, but now that lives are at stake, especially that of their children, we see them at their . . . best? Best yet, anyway.
