Hello, Tar Valon friends--
I want to take a minute to highlight that today is World Thrombosis Day. Blood clot awareness and prevention is an issue that is near and dear to my heart (and my lungs!), so I wanted to give y'all some important info about the signs and symptoms of thrombosis.
Understanding Thrombosis
Understanding Venous Thromboembolism
Blood clots can happen to anyone at any time (TRUST ME) and are life-threatening, so it's important to know the symptoms. It's also important to know that hospitalization is a major risk factor for venous thromboembolism (deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolism)--up to 60% of VTE occurs during or within 90 days of hospitalization, so if you are having surgery or need to be hospitalized for any reason, make sure your doctor has a plan in place to prevent the development of blood clots.
That's about all I've got, friends! Stay active, stay hydrated, and GO TO THE DOCTOR if you have unexplained shortness of breath when you exercise! Let's avoid clots together!
