Holy cow! You're really accomplished. Have you already checked out the Hand Crafts subforum in the Discussion Hall? It seems right up your alley!

Thanks Madame Mayor! The Hand Crafts forum is becoming one of my favorites, and certainly one of my most frequented. :D

I hereby invest the very polite Elyss with the authority to request carrots of me at any time. Let it be widely known.

Elyss, I so feel you on trying to sew when you're short. For JordanCon I had this really lovely linen dress - I had to make it a size... Lord, 18? to fit proportions properly, and then had to hack and hem about a foot off - and then do about six inches of taking it in around the waist and back. Making stuff fit is such a pain.

I'm really impressed that you did the hemming on your first piece! I still struggle with that; I get help so that I don't ruin the overall costume. My hems are usually a little wonky.

I love Tae Kwon Do Selvyn, and I usually attend two to three classes per week. This January will be seven years since I first started, and I'll be testing for my second degree in October. I paricularly enjoy the forms, and the free sparring as well.

Seven years - that's impressive! A lot longer than I did it for, I'm sure. I had to look up degree; it was always referred to as 'dan' here. :look: The highest I got was a black tag, though as that looks to be different on Wikipedia too, I suppose I should say red belt with a black bit of tape around it. I'm not sure if I ever actually received the tape, come to think, but I did get a bit of paper that tells me I did in spirit.

Oh - congratulations on becoming a Citizen! :pleased-1:

Selvyn you practice taekwondo? :eek That's news to me. :embarassed: Ahem. I was a Shotokon person, but it has been many years for me too.

Well, practised. It's felt like a really long time - long enough that I stopped thinking about it, at least. :look: Shotokan sounds quite interesting. I wonder what the main differences between them are, especially as taekwondo was - apparently - developed with it in mind.

I completely understand Illyria. I made the pattern for my costume (for pics see the Cosplay thread in Hand Crafts) out of muslin and then transferred it to paper. I had to alter it five or six times to get it looking halfway decent. And then, because the hem was uneven, my mom had to pin it up for me for about three hours. It took so long because the final circumference of the bottom of the skirt was a little over 200 inches (a little over 500 centimeters for the rest of the world *shakes head at standard measuring system*).

Selvyn, I hear you have become a pocket dragon. I hope you have fully recovered from the process. Ranks can be arranged slightly differently I believe with different organizations. (I'm sure you being in England has something to do with it as well.)

(Omg I can't believe I didn't even spell it right. /sigh) Shotokan is founded on self-defense. Don't feel bad since it's been forever since I practiced as well. It's basically just surviving and defending from whatever attacks others bring against you. If Taekwondo was made to thwart Shotokan artists, it would make sense why it's so hard to fight them. :( I got my butt kicked a few times. Taekwondo seems so aggressive in comparison, but I'm not an expert on it.

I know my school specifically uses a blend of several different methods. I don't know how common this is for Tae Kwon Do in general though.
