I'll keep an eye out for the check.
So, I feel like some of you may be wondering why the tower is asking for your money. There is the short answer given above, so we don't have ads on the site (and we will not have ads ). But what does the Tower spend money on anyway?
You might be surprised to learn that the money you donate doesn't really go to pay for any of the live events, we may have to dip into the bank account to cover a deposit here and there, but the events are carefully planned and budgeted so the income from the tickets covers all of the expenses.
Some of the money goes to pay for the site itself, hosting and hardware and servers. This includes a small fee for Quick Topics which is used for the mafia games. A big chunk of the donations go to fund our scholarships. We give 2 $500 scholarships out each year. We also have the Amyrlin and Keeper awards that we use this money to pay for, including shipping those awards to members who cannot go to a live event, we have advertisements and little give-aways at JordanCon to help get our name out there and keep new members coming in. We have prizes and gifts that are randomly awarded for participation in this fundraiser, the membership survey, and occasionaly other tower activities. And finally, we have life event gifts. These are onesies (or crawlers) that are sent to Tower members when they have a baby.
Each year I prepare a budget and it gets approved at the Fall Admin meeting. Each department gets to suggest additions or special things they need that may get added to the budget based on how much money we have. This past year we were able to buy a megaphone so our Amyrlin doesn't have to lose her voice at large Tower events.
While we have recovered the Tower finances from the dark days, we have to keep a minimum amount in our bank account to avoid fees and we are often dancing on the edge of that amount. So if you have $5 of $10 you can spare, it will go a long way to ensuring we not only keep the Tower running, but are able to do all the special little things to.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, and Go Kittens!

You're welcome Cahr, and thank you for the donation! The check arrived today (they were clearly pessimistic about the delivery time).
