I was a member here years ago, but it never really went anywhere, fizzed out pretty quick because I was busy homeschooling 5 kids. But, now I'm back! I'm currently watching the new series as well as rereading the books.
I don't know as I have a favorite character in the books or the series, I really enjoy how I can see different aspects of myself in so many of the characters. But, I have to admit that I tend to relate to the Brown Sisters the most. I'm a serious nerd and I love learning new things. Next year I'll turn 60 and here in Alabama, USA, people 60 and over can go to the Community Colleges tuition free. I plan to take classes. Not for a degree, not even in just one area, I just want to be back to writing papers and doing homework.
Currently I'm trying to hold a household together and running my own company. My husband is on full disability and rarely leaves the house, so I'm responsible for all the shopping, etc. Plus, I have a grown daughter who lives here and is developmentally delayed, she also doesn't drive and needs help with handling financial matters, etc. My youngest son still lives at home. He's 21 and is trying to find his niche in the world, but with two jobs he's not a lot of help around the house. My business is sewing. Mostly I make bags, backpacks and purses with a nerd/geek theme. I have an Etsy shop with my finished bags, which I also sell at local Cons and Outdoor Markets. I also design machine embroidery designs through my own website and Facebook page. I REALLY enjoy machine embroidery designs and challenges that a lot of folks would never take on with a single needle embroidery machine.
I'm rather ADHD and when I'm not working or running the household I can't sit still, not even to watch TV, so may hands are always busy. I read a lot, mostly Fantasy and Science Fiction. When I do settle down to watch tv, I have something going in my hands. I knit, crochet, tat, hand embroidery and so many other crafts. I'm part of a monthly D&D session and I'm trying to get another weekly session going with friends and family. With 8 grown kids, where most of them are nerds too it's not that hard to find folks to play with.
I'm originally from Michigan, but I have lived all over the US. Let's put them in chronological order: Owosso Michigan, Alexander City Alabama, Aberdeen Maryland, Colorado Springs Colorado, Lackland Air Force Base TX (Air Force Basic Training), Chanute AFB IL (Air Force Training), Travis AFB (Active Duty and Reserves), Concord CA, Slidell LA, back to Alexander City AL, Childersburg AL, Birmingham AL and now Odenville AL. I have three step-kids that have been mine since they were 5, 7 & 9 as well as 5 kids I had by birth. I had a busy few years there for awhile since at one point I had 3 in diapers. We homeschooled the youngest 5 all the way through school.
I have read the Wheel of Time books all the way two or three times and I'm currently doing it again. I love the world. I'm watching the tv series and as long as I can keep in mind that it's the same world and the same characters but a different story I enjoy it. I have a hard time remembering that they can't commit to 20 seasons to tell the whole story correctly.
I read a lot, so I have several favorite authors: Tolkien, Martin, Piers Anthony, J K Rowling, Christopher Paolini are among my favorites. I also love K T Hunter, an independent author that writes Steam Punk Fiction.
I'm glad to be here and I look forward to meeting and getting to know like-minded folks!
