Total to date: $3312!!!
You know what makes me darn right proud about us?
We are one hundred percent member funded. No really. We charge no monthly memberships, and we don't have any, that is any banners or advertisements of any sort. Not one. Definitely can't say that about Facebook....
For many of us this is our home on the internet (or at least one of them). We have made friends, found brothers and sisters that we're not related to, and have found a way to express the passion we have for a series of books that we love.
We tend to be passionate about our home here. For those of us that have been around, there's got to be something that's kept us around. For those of use who get frustrated with the Administration, it's because we care about this place. We care about the people here, and we care about the friendships we've made here.
Our operating costs, excluding our real life events, run in the neighborhood of $5000 to $6000 US. And every last one of those dollars comes from us, the members, through donations. To be honest, it's truly astounding to me that we are able to do what we do through voluntary donations. Many of us tend to be very generous. It is quite humbling.
The dates for our fundraiser are July 15 through August 15. Our goal this year is $3000. Because you are quite clever I'm sure you've noted that that goal is considerably less than our operating costs. We are fortunate to be in a favorable cash position, so we felt this would be a safe amount for us at this time.
But! We have seen in years past that you folks are crazy generous, and very giving. Because of this we have decided that every dollar raised past the goal of $3000 will be donated to a charity chosen by Ms. Harriet McDougal, our beloved Creator's widow.
Personally, I would like to blow her socks off, but that's just me.
I know that these are trying times for many of us, economically, but every dollar you can give is one more we didn't have before. You don't have to be able to give us hundreds of dollars. If all you can afford is five dollars, then we are grateful to have that five dollars, and we appreciate every cent of it. Because I believe in leading by example, my first order of business when I'm done here is to write a check from my personal account to deposit with some other items I will be taking to the bank tomorrow.
How can I donate, you ask? Why, I'm glad you asked that! You can make a payment via Paypal by sending it to treasurer@tarvalon.net. If you would prefer to mail a check or a money order, you can mail those to me:

With either form of payment, please tell us your Tower name, as well as your real name so we can document your gift appropriately.
If you are a member who lives outside of the US and would like to donate, but don't have access to paypal, feel free to email me at shatayan@tarvalon.net, and we'll work it out.
Now! We do have some incentives and prizes. Some of them are for site wide activities, like we've done in the past, some of them are tangible prizes. Tree from Community Outreach will be along shortly to go into more detail about those. I am sworn to secrecy, and cannot divulge a thing about them. No, I cannot tell you that someone who donates will get a $100 "gift certificate" to an official event, so don't even try to get me to!
Tree will also have some spiffy and pretty badges, and some other voodoo type stuff to make it easier to donate that I don't understand, but really appreciate.
Take some time to consider what you can give. Thank you very much.
