I don't want to go all the way to the US just to be stuck in a kitchen cooking the whole time. I can do that at home. :tug

Also, as for food - Paleo is very big in the United States right now, and California is always on the forward end of food trends. We have a lot of members who eat paleo, non-gluten, no carb, no fat, low sodium, no iodine, no caffeine, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, no uncooked fruits/veggies diets.... (edited for clarity: not all the same people :look:). Lake Tahoe is a small city, but it is a city. And it is a big food destination. And there are grocery stores of both the generic and granola persuasion. I feel confident saying that people will be able to find what they need.

Also, an important part of figuring out where our group dinner will be held is their ability to accommodate a variety of special needs. But anywhere you go in this region, you're going to be able to find fresh food in abundance. :)

Thanks Eleyan Sedai, but I would need something specifically AIP-compliant. Here in Brisbane we do have a few different Paleo restaurants but not even they are able to cater to AIP (not even a single meal for me), so it's not something I'm willing to leave to chance - I need to know before I make any sort of plans that there are going to be places where I can eat (and enough of them scattered around the place that I won't be confined to one area for the whole trip and miss out on any sightseeing or group activities or whatever). I know it's probably difficult to give any definites before the actual venue is decided upon, but I'd appreciate it being taken into consideration.

I've been a fussy eater in the past and remain somewhat fussy. I would suggest google.com and yelp.com to best address your personal dietary needs. I'm big on personal responsibility and when we're being super restrictive it is our responsibility to find out how best to meet those restrictions.

No Results for autoimmune protocol Tahoe City, CA

Suggestions for improving the results:
Try a larger search area.
Try a different location.
Check the spelling or try alternate spellings.
Try a more general search. e.g. "pizza" instead of "pepperoni"

So that's a no, then. (And let me just take the opportunity to point out that I'm not a "fussy eater", in the same way as somebody with a peanut allergy is not a "fussy eater". Believe me, this "super-restrictive" diet is not by choice.)

To be fair....
I have never heard of that diet being called Auto-Immune Protocol in the States. You may actually need to do some leg-work and look at individual menus. I'm not surprised it isn't a search term on Yelp. Have you looked up Paleo? Gluten-free? With such a restricted diet, menu looking is really the best way. We have several members who also have life-threatening dietary restrictions and it is pretty easy to find out if a restaurant can accommodate you or not (by looking at the menu, be emailing or calling ahead)

Also, we're likely not going to be in Tahoe City. There are several cities around Lake Tahoe. I'm looking primarily at places near State Line.

That's interesting, because it was developed and researched mainly in the USA, and I'm told that USA is more accepting of it than most countries (though it's not hard to be more accepting than zero). It's considerably more restrictive than Paleo, in the same way that Paleo is more restrictive than Gluten-Free.

I have contacted the Paleo restaurants in and around Brisbane and found that none of them can offer an AIP-compliant dish (which would be lovely just for the chance to have a night off from cooking for myself, let alone being able to enjoy lunch with colleagues or a night out with friends). It's difficult because the restrictions go right down to the level of what kind of spices and oils are used, so if a restaurant isn't already using a safe oil it can be very difficult for them to switch oils (and clean out any associated equipment) just for one dish. And the consequences of getting it wrong are only sometimes immediately apparent, but are potentially disastrous (to the point of hospitalisation etc.).

To be fair, Eleyan, I've looked for this in Boston. The closest place Google can find that could offer AIP compliant food on a regular basis is in London :look:

Honestly, if you're coming all the way to the states for a party and your diet is that restrictive, do whatever legwork you need to to find safe eateries, or just cook for yourself. :p Unless you only eat really complicated meals that take hours to prepare, surely you can fix something fairly quick that's safe for you to have whenever is convenient. If you want to go out to dinner with people, then do that, but eat your safe food before/after so you don't starve. Have a glass of water and enjoy the dinner conversation. No, it's not perfect, but you're coming for the socialisation, not the foodie scene. The Tower is great about trying to cater to to a wide array of needs, but we can't plan a venue and event around every single possible need a party-goer might have. If it means enough to you to travel for 20+ hours to get there, then be flexible and make the best of a tough situation (having food issues, I know, can be a nightmare at times). At the end the day it's your responsibility to sort those things out. The event planners have enough other things to sort as it is.

I suspect most folks are going to be also staying indoors if it's cold. I'm not going to have winter gear with us so you can socialise with us. :D
What?! Indoors, when there might be snow?! D: D: D:

[/somewhat srs: I love the cold and snow]

When it is cold and snowy, I very much love looking outside from the cozy indoors. :D
And there are just as many things to do indoors at Tahoe as there are out doors, and both come with lovely views. :D

I think this is going to be a great place to have it, but since they are looking at sometime in April for this I won't be able to come. :( Spring break is in March and I will be back in classes at that time.

Yep...April makes it tough for those of us who traditionally use Spring Break for Anni. I'm going to try to work it out anyway...it'll just be tougher.

I'm super excited! I love 30 minutes away :D that means I can bring my son for a little bit and then he can be with his grandparents or some such and I can adult!

Also about the snow thing? California and Nevada are both in droughts and it didn't really snow that much this year or the few previous. I'd say it's far more likely not to have snow that time of year :shrug
