It's too bad there won't be any Rum Sisters there for Rum Runner Wednesday.

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES

We have a ticket price!

I admit: It's a little scary. But please keep in mind this covers all programming, our fancy Amyrlin's Feast, AND hotel. For reference, 10th Anni was $175, not counting the hotel. I believe the ticket price is for 4 people per room, though I could be wrong, and in which case our lovely Events ladies will straighten me out. :D

Tickets: $225

Registration opens: December 1
Deposits due: January 15
Payment due: February 12
Late payments due: March 11

So start planning and stashing cash away -- you have till February to pay. :D

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

I'm glad a ticket price is out, but sad because there's very little chance I will be able to swing that ticket price + travel + a weekend of food. I guess we'll see...

I miss Colorado. :cry

Edit: I'm actually just going to say this out right, and accept that I'm probably going to get "in trouble" for saying it.

I was waiting to see what the price would be, but now I see it....

I don't understand why we chose this venue over the tried and true success and relative affordability of Estes Park. It makes zero sense to me, and I have yet to see an argument that makes the decision any more rational. :\

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there discussion at one point about using Estes Park as a permanent venue for Anni?

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

We decided to go with Tahoe because the price of accommodation is comparable to Estes. The extras that come with a milestone anniversary party are what is making the price of this ticket a bit higher. These are expenses that we would have racked up even at Estes Park for this milestone.

Estes Park is *not* our permanent location. It is a fall back location in the case of no affordable bids, or just no bids, coming in to choose from.

If the person is taking up bed space and will be joining us for the catered meal/party (our major costs), then we will have to charge a full ticket price. You can email me when registration opens to discuss the particulars of your situation at naevents@tarvalon.net with a cc to events@tarvalon.net.

Is there somewhere that the "extras" are listed out?

They will be listed out in full in an info thread well before registration opens in the anniversary party forum.

Among them will be three nights' accommodation, our anniversary ball, the activities that we normally have at an anni party, and a few extras.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought I'd seen talk at one point about making it a "permanent" location, but maybe I just misunderstood. It can happen. :look:
I am glad that it's a fall back location, though. Pretty smart. :pleased-1:

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

Brandon and I won't be able to come unless we get a windfall of money (and when does that ever happen?). I thought we'd be able to make anni for *sure* since we can drive there and we'd even have 1-3 extra people carpooling in our car to split gas...but the ticket price is just too high. For us and for them. If food were included, or if mini fridges were available, we might've been able to swing it. :(

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

For what it's worth, I expected the increased ticket cost, given that it's a special Anniversary. 10th Anni was super-expensive and didn't include the room, and from what I remember, there was only the catered dinner when it came to food. So this is going to be cheaper than 10th Anni, unless I'm mistaken.

I love all y'all for putting this stuff together. I know it's not easy, but y'all are fantastic. <3

Without the assistance of a very generous fairy, some of us couldn't have made it to 10th, Jeff.

Just because the prices were this spendy before doesn't mean it's a good thing to do again.

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

I want to try to address some of the concerns and questions here.

I know the ticket price is disappointingly high to a lot of you. I get it! It's scary to me too, especially since I'm flying across the country and renting a car. On top of food expenses. None of us are made of money, I know.

That's part of the reason we wanted to announce a ticket price early. If we had it out earlier, we would have, so everyone would have more time to plan and budget and save. My one regret is that we weren't able to announce the ticket price earlier. For that, I apologize.

For 10th Anni, we went to the homeplace of the Creator, Robert Jordan. For 15th, we chose to go to Lake Tahoe as a place of significance to our founder and Koyn Amyrlin, Eleyan. For 20th, we may end up in Colorado, as a comfortable, traditional place. But for this one, for 15th, we chose to go someplace beautiful and new to us and special to our founder.

I cannot apologize for the ticket price. We're renting out a hotel in a beautiful part of the country where we as a Tower have not been. We're going to have a wonderful catered dinner that no one has to worry about being injured while cooking.

Food is not included, no. However, there are ways around it. I've lived out of a cooler for an event weekend before, only buying one meal a day (to break up the monotony of sandwiches). Hell, I'll probably get a styrofoam cooler to stash some cold cuts and cheese in for the weekend to help mitigate the price of food.

We're doing our best to make this a kick-ass party. I know the price tag is high, but I'm asking you to trust my team and I when we say it will definitely be worth it.

We do generally try to keep ticket prices low. This is special anni, so we raised the budget. We don't do that every year.

I get that there were reasons for choosing this location, but I stand by my opinion that it was a poor choice. The good things listed are only 'worth it' if a person can actually afford to go.

Re: ANNI LOCATION AND DATES. update: Now with ticket price

I just expected something more like 10th's price since we were told this event would have a comparable cost :\ I know we've had 5 years since 10th and the economy is subject to inflation, but the $175 10th anni ticket would cost $185 and change today - I looked it up. (Inflation has been far less than normal for the past few years due to the Fed keeping the prime rate low).

When I go on a trip, food costs more than hotel for me, especially when hotel is split 4 ways. And with food at 10th, I personally remember going out for only one meal, and I did that specifically to spend time with one of my sisters and try some of the local seafood.

I don't mean to criticize, and I apologize if this post is coming across that way. That is not my intention. I'm just trying to express why I didn't expect this price.

no one has to worry about being injured while cooking.
Did we have a kitchen injury last year?

But Kitan, it *is* comparable because it includes accommodation, which 10th did not. If you figure a hotel room at $100/night, and you split that 4-ways, you're looking at $25/person/night. Three nights would then be $75/person. 10th Anni was $175 ticket without accommodation. So if you factor in $75, 10th Anni was really $250. That is MORE than the $225 quoted here.

As groceries will be handy, I expect Ayendra and I will be eating a lot of PBJs. I'm sure some coolers could be sorted for those who want to keep cold cuts and stuff on hand for the cheapest eats.
