Re: Miscellaneous

What he means by deleting cookies, Nandi, is that if you haven't deleted any tarvalon.net cookies since the move, your system might still be retaining some from the archived site. Also, if you've access the archived site, same deal. You could be having issues with staying logged in because of those cookies.

Try clearing them, then let us know if you're still having issues. :)

Re: Miscellaneous

But I'm at work, so I don't want my browser to "Remember Me" (which I assumed was a save my password sort of deal). I also use the incognito pages, so not sure if it'd work anyway.

We'll see.

edit to add the board/colors are uncomfortable and I hate that I still haven't figured out if or how to get topic reply notifications. Not a daily summary, but honesttogod topic replies.

Re: Miscellaneous

i know i have cleared my cookies at least once (when someone brought the issue up before Yele Sedai) and havent since. It still gives me that issue of logging me out if i'm idle too long

edit: i access the site mostly at home, using Google Chrome - not incognito

Re: Miscellaneous

yeah, I still have the same problem, and I have cleared all the cookies at least twice, and not accessed the archived site. I don't really mind being logged out while idle, but it just seems like a really short period to be considered "idle". maybe as short as 10-15 minutes or something. I use firefox. I would rather not use the "remember me" feature so I'm just dealing with it. now that I know it's going to happen it bothers me less, although if there is a fix that would still be nice.

Re: Miscellaneous

Well, the "Remember Me" feature is there as an option to avoid this. Otherwise, I guess it's just tweaking the time until the session expires, and what's really the correct value for that? I'm not sure if we can change it, either.

Right now, as far as I'm concerned, the feature is working as intended. We can certainly consider changing the timeout, but right now I want to focus on people who are getting logged out even though they check "Remember Me", if that is happening.

Also, for clarification, "Remember Me" does NOT save your password (your browser will do that separately if you choose to allow it to). What it does is keeps your session from expiring, ie. getting logged out. You would use it on public computers where you wouldn't want someone to come later and still be logged in as you, since it will log you out after X minutes of inactivity. If you do choose to "remember me", you can still prevent this from happening by simply remembering to log out.

Again, the automatic logout is a feature designed to work that way, and it's the only function that "remember me" affects :)

Re: Miscellaneous

It will not; that particular code sequence is part of URLs, so it breaks links that people use all over the site -- sigs, articles, text, what-have-you. The smiley does exist with the other slash though!

Re: Miscellaneous

I'm not sure if this has already been answered, but whenever I open a spoiler, It opens the site homepage. If I'm using my Mac laptop, I can use the back button and see what's in the spoiler, but if I'm on my iPad, I can't access content in spoilers at all...

Re: Miscellaneous

Alaria, do you have that problem when you use a different browser on your laptop?

Re: Miscellaneous

I only have firefox on my laptop... And if I had an alternate, it would be safari, which is giving me the same problem on my iPad... Weird indeed since I wouldn't expect both browsers to have the same problem...

Re: Miscellaneous

Is it possible to have a Mark Forums Read button come up on the New Posts page?

seems silly to have to go back to the main page to mark all as read when I'm already looking at new posts.

Re: Miscellaneous

If you click the Forum Actions dropdown at the top of the page, there is a "Mark Forums Read" option.

thanks for the explanation of "remember me". now that I know it doesn't save the password, that's great.

looks like I may have to start using that, because I was just logged out when I was typing a post! perhaps it counted me as inactive because I hadn't left the same page in awhile, but I was certainly actively typing. odd.

Same here, I thought it was a mobile issue but apparently it's just with iPad? I use Safari on my Mac (desktop) and have no similar problem.
Also, is it just me or are the spoiler tags missing when you "go advanced" to reply to a forum? I just typed them in myself on a recent wall of text post when I couldn't find them, but now I'm wondering if it was me..

They have not been added to the text editor bar yet. We'd like to have nice accompanying graphics to suit the bar, and that takes time. :) The tags still work though!
