Ok sorry to post and run but I'm on a really tight time schedule for the next 3 weeks and don't have a ton of time to Google and deep dive which I would probably do and screw myself over. Can someone explain Moraines nephew and how we figured out he's a dark friend? I feel like I missed something. I 100% encourage you to explain it to me like I'm an idiot.

Anika Sedai, I believe the first reference to it we get is when Liandrin visits him with his orders and he gets his mum out of the room and refers to the Dark One as "our master". He's just.. shady ig 💀 Well, I mean he did it to promote his family in the Great Game and all. And the way he talks to Anvaere after it is revealed, he thinks she should agree with him that it was worth it in order to advance politically.
The saddest thing is that Anvaere thinks that it was because of her tireless diplomatic efforts that her son's going to be king, and says as much to Moiraine.... and then it turns out that no, this meteoric rise was just because her son was secretly in league with the Dark 😢

Those who have read the book probably suspected it the moment we learned his name :look:

But yes, the main clue came when Liandrin visited and he was told to kill Moiraine, and he then tried to do it :look:

So a couple of things I'm coming back to.

1. Siuan smacking down Rand with the One Power. Back in the day when I was strictly on WoT roleplaying sites, I used to always get into it with dudes who wanted to play invincible male channelers that no Aes Sedai could touch at all with the Power. My response was always, "You're character might be stronger in brute strength, but mine is over 200 years old and actually knows what she's doing." Seeing that writ large on the screen felt like petty vindication for my 25 year old self

2. I was watching some commentary about the show (I forget which one off the top of my head) and it was suggested that the Mat/Ishy scene was intended to be the Forsaken's way to try and lure Mat to the Shadow. If I watch it that way, it makes a lot more sense than just the restuffing of ancient memories into his head. As long as they don't actually make him a DF, I can work with that.

This last point is great i had not even thought of that.

Im curious how they will get to Rand confronting Ishamael in the next episode though? Siuan takes care of Rand with ease, and basically says he has got no stronger since he left the two rivers, but now he will have to take on the dark ones strongest lieutenant? It will be a bit odd if Rand just manages to defeat him after what happened in this episode.

Overall i did like this episode though i thought it was a lot of fun.

Didn't Siuan basically attack Lan though? I wouldn't have said she was particularly under threat at the point.

Not sure how i feel about Rand, Lan, Moraine and Lanfear all entering the ways together either, but there you go haha.

np :pleased-1:
that bit made me wince so much for poor anvaere

ahhh that's true, that is definitely what was going on. especially since ishy says 'he was mine from his birth' or something - and then immediately makes his point that, considering [the apparent thrust of that whole tea.. trip... thing was that] the Wheel turns and nothing ever changes, why not Turn to the Nihilist Side 💀
hopefully we will still get Mat doing his Old Speech speeches and being fae-touched and Knowing Things .... it's such an aesthetic for him
I also really wonder how literally they'll translate the whole Rand having Lews in his head legit snarling TRUST NO ONE, KILL THEM ALL 🤣🤣 those bits are lowkey hilarious {at least toward the beginning of the series}[/ISPOILER]

My running theory is that to Siuan, Moiraine is currently acting like a Darkfriend. The Oaths make allowances for use of the power against Shadowspawn (which isn't the same as a Darkfriend, but alas) so I think it was allowed as either Siuan thinking Moiraine and Lan were working with Lanfear, OR that Siuan didn't see it as an attack so much as "moving Lan out of the way." How each Aes Sedai interprets the Oaths matters.
