Welcome back, Primus. Always good to see fellow Gray warders back.

Also your beekeeping explanation was very fascinating. I really enjoyed it!

Does your namesake mean you are a fan of the Les Claypool fronted band Primus?
Nah sorry. Just a big Roman history buff ;) Primus is from the Primus Pilus, which stands for the first spearman, and who was the senior centurion of the first cohort of the legion. :cheeseeni:

Hey, stop popping up every few years :p We will need to chain you in the Gray Sitting room.... I mean... we totally don't do that in there :look:

Did you see the show? How is it?
That's totally a red move :look: are we rubbing off on the grays?!

Welcome back! I've looked into bee keeping and love everything I learned with out even stepping into it. I learned that hives you don't need to open the hive to get honey is either absolutely loved or hated by bee keepers.. debates on their experiences on harm or no harm to their hives... there is so much out there on the webs and bee keepers all over love to share knowledge! Also sneaking in doggo pics is win!

Yeah, you are talking about the flow hives.
From what I hear, they are:
overpriced because they cost like 4 times a normal hive,
take a ton of time to assemble (because they are not pre-assembled,
if you forget the queen excluder then you won't be able to extract the honey
when extracting the honey other bees will come on that open honey jar, so you need to somehow have a net over the area your pouring. Good luck!
when getting them ready for the winter you need to see how much you are feeding them.
Also with honey, you need to make sure it's all capped before you extract. It's just a pain in this way.
... so yeah!

You don't need to worry about disturbing the bees. A bit of smoke and the bees become calm and you can see what going on... and that right there is ALL the fun!

Not only that it's the process of extracting honey, the beeswax, and everything around it (the social aspect especially because you meet so many different types of people) that's the best part of beekeeping. Before I started I had no interest i the garden. Now, I find everything fascinating and understand the need to go chemical-free!

Anyhow I can go on about this for a long time. But a bunch of pictures and clips can say so much more! These are all hives i built myself as well.

Pictures that say it all!

I started making my own hives design that are insulated and use a biological way of preventing mites that threaten the bees.
I’m very interested in this!!!! Also welcome back!

Oh good pictures too!

Did you purchase your first hive or do the wild catch? I've seen YouTubes on that and it was very interesting!
