Is there such a thing as Near-Brothers?

I (think) I've seen some people with 'Near-Sisters' in TV.N, like the Near-Sister bond of the Aiel. Now, here is my question; is it possible for someone to have a 'Near-Brother' on TV.N?

Certainly! Near-siblings and first-siblings aren't officially recognized relationships here at TarValon.Net, but you can certainly have them. :D

Don't get touchy fire boy, I just truly like the idea of first/near siblings, I didn't mean you specifically.

Syera Sedai - Since it isn't an official thing, you don't need to notify anyone. You just prepare the ceremony yourself and get enough people to participate. Vendri and I did our First Sibling ceremony at a local Tower event. :pleased-1:

Definitely, when I did mine a few years ago I just ensured I had the ability to fulfill all the roles needed - officiator, new parent, old parents, etc.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them done without all the official roles filled, too.

be careful becoming first siblings.....

Jarin and I did that... now I'm not allowed to hit him anymore. :(

We also did our own version of the "ceremony"

We grabbed some moms, and rather than face strikes, we close-fist punched each other in the arm.

No fancy words.

It was lovely and I got a great brother out of it.

So my thought is if you really want to adopt a person, just do it. Find time at an event, and slap away!

But also, it's legit. Can't physically harm a person then decide later on "eh, I don't really want to call you brother anymore". It's for real serious business.

Many years ago, there was a trend that some people seemed to be collecting near siblings and would have half a dozen or more mentioned in their sig. So it was decided it was excessive and they were kind of relegated to an informal relationship, never to be acknowledged. Similar with first siblings, but these ceremonies still occur at parties and I don't think they are discouraged in sigs to the same extent
