More changes coming to the Department of Marketing...

Our most excellent Editor of the Tar Valon Times, Erin Sedai, has decided to step down from her position. She put 2 years of effort into managing this publication and has done a fantastic job. Thank you, Erin! I will miss working with you in Marketing. :hug

Following the application process, Erin will work with the incoming Editor through December to ensure that the role transitions smoothly.

The position of Editor will require plenty of regular checking-in, both via email and the boards. The Editor is solely responsible for the publication of the TVT on the site Community page (blog-style, coded in HTML), and maintained in the Library wiki. There is an email component as well. Editor of the Tar Valon Times
This is an administrative position within the Department of Marketing. The Editor reports to the Director of Marketing.

Job Specifics
• Manage and maintain Tar Valon Times staff. Reporter positions rotate every 6 months. All TVT staff reports directly to the Editor.
• Call for, receive, and edit as needed all articles and other compositions by reporters for the monthly publication. Communicate with staff throughout the creative process each month, to ensure deadlines are met.
• Publish the Tar Valon Times (monthly) on the site Community page (requires some HTML knowledge).
• Publish TVT content to the wiki Library as well.
• Be aware of important site, Wheel of Time, and other related news that bears coverage in the TVT. Come up with new concepts and ideas for the TVT to keep content and format fresh.
• Announce and encourage readership of each issue of the TVT on the boards.
• Collaborate with the External Marketing Coordinator to ensure that a condensed email version of the TVT is sent to interested members each month.
• Communicate regularly with the Director of Marketing about progress, issues, and needs of the TVT.

Qualifications
• Anyone of any rank or position may apply. Must have been a member of the site for at least 6 months.
• Ability to write clearly in English with acceptable grammar and spelling.
• Experience in writing/editing, preferably in a journalism setting, either online or in 'real-life' experiences.
• Have a working knowledge of HTML, or the ability to pick said working knowledge up extremely rapidly.
• Have a working knowledge of wiki coding, or the ability to pick said working knowledge up extremely rapidly. Familiarity with the site Library is preferable.
• Ability to stay on task and commit the necessary time each month to see each TVT issue through to publication. It will fall to you to adhere to that timeliness as the sole publisher of the TVT.
• Ability to regularly and frequently check both the Editor email and the TVT discussion forum.


How to Apply
Send an email to marketing@tarvalon.net and keeper@tarvalon.net with the subject set as "APPLICATION - JOBTITLE - YOURNAMEHERE," detailing why you are qualified to be the Editor of the Tar Valon Times. Please include two writing samples. In addition, include two examples of possible content for future editions of the TVT. We will be accepting applications through November 18, 2011.

Regarding the samples: Any two samples which show a proficient command of the English language in a writing situation may be submitted. It may be an excerpt or a full article/paper, an essay you've written for school, or other projects you have worked on.

The writing sample may be attached to the email as a .doc, .txt or .pdf file, uploaded online with link provided, or just copied and pasted into the email at the bottom.

What big shoes to fill, Erin you have been the leader of such a large transitioning aspect of the site and made it an institution. (it really is!) Thank you for all your amazing whip cracking and hard work.
