Hello everyone !
I'm new to Tar Valon and to the Wheel of Time in general. I'm about halfway through the third book, enjoying it immensly thus far even though I wish I had more time to read it !
Never before have I joined a fan community without having read all the source material beforehand but I thought it would be interesting to share my discoveries, wonders and speculation with other fans while reading. I intend to get to know all of you at the same time as getting to know the world of the Wheel of Time !
As for myself, I'm a twenty-one-year-old student on her way to a M.Eng. I live in a country famed for its wine and cheese.
My English is pretty good but I do make mistakes so don't hesitate to correct me !
Like most students, I suffer from a chronic lack of time. I sleep little, eat more, study too much and try to be a somewhat competent president to a voluntary association. When I have the time, I'm an avid reader of fanfiction and fantasy novels and an aspiring writer. However, my favorite novels are not fantasy but scifi : it's the Vorkosigan saga by Lois McMaster Bujold.
To come back to the Wheel of Time, I started reading it a long time ago in French but it did not catch my interest at the time, perhaps because of the translation or because I was just a different person back then. But now, I really love it and I'm glad I didn't miss such a good fantasy serie ! My favorite characters so far are Nynaeve and Moiraine. Nynaeve because her bad temper is portrayed as a real fault that sometimes gets her into trouble and because her heart is at least as big as said temper and Moiraine because she is a perfect little manipulator. So-called chessmasters such as Albus Dumbledore have a lot to learn from Moiraine Sedai. Also, even though she is often vilified for making people dance to her tune, I think her dedication to the greater good does her credit.
