Here is my intro post:

Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time and why?
That is a hard question. I am re-reading the books and I just got to Book 2. From the characters that I remember, I would say it is a toss up between Perrin and Mat because I like world-building and lore, in general, in books. I like Perrin's Wolf-brother and dream walking aspects, and I like the duality of his nature in trying to find the balance between destruction (the axe) and creation (the blacksmith's hammer). I also really like Mat's adventures with the Aelfinn/Eelfinn, the bladed spear, the hanged man, and all of his missing memories that come back.

How did you find TarValon.Net?
I was talking about books in my WoW guild, and a conversation about the Wheel of Time books popped up. Someone told me about TV.net, and about the forums, the events, and stuff like that.

What do you do? (student? job? hobbies?)
I am an educator and working on my 2nd MA degree currently. For hobbies, I like hiking, photography, TTRPGs, reading and video games.

Where are you from? What languages do you speak?
I am from Southern California. The only language I technically speak is English, although I do understand some Spanish. The languages I studied in college for my degrees were all "dead" languages--Koine Greek, Latin, Old English and Middle English.

Have you seen Wheel of Time on Prime? Did you enjoy the show?
I have seen it, and I enjoyed it for the most part. I look at it as a different storytelling medium; any shift in medium necessitates a different mode of storytelling, and that means making different choices narratively. So, I tended to understand many of the "changes" that were made, knowing they would be introduced later or that it would be too difficult visually to include. My one gripe is:
Aes Sedai can't burn each other out while linked like that in the battle in Fal Dara/Tarwin's Gap. That shouldn't have happened, in part because Rand should have shown up there and ended the battle like in the books, but also because it fundamentally changes the nature of how the Source works.

What is your favorite book or author other than Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time?

This is also a hard question. I will generally read anything that seems interesting to me, no matter what the genre is. However, the ones that standout to me as possible favorites are The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien, Philip K. Dick, William Gibson, Neil Gaiman, Charles De Lint, and John Green.

Good morning and welcome Raynor! It's great to have you here. Those are some really good authors that you have chosen. I am re-reading some Philip K. Dick books and it is such a treat. As the Amazon Season 2 of WoT is quickly approaching; I have started another re-watching of Season 1. I'm in agreement with you that it is simply a different telling - and I'm enjoying this telling in this medium of TV.

Welcome! Always good to meet someone else who is a fan(?) of Old English (the language, not the liquor).

I had the same gripe as you did about the show. However, on rewatching it...
When we see the Aes Sedai link in the episode where they gentle Logain, the Power very clearly going from each sister into Liandrin, who then made weaves from it. In the finale, we get a half-trained woman trying to lead a bunch of either Tower drop-outs or Wilders, and you see her go in and grab the Power from them. Now, I'm not sure that would exactly be possible, either, but it could explain why the burning out happened: the linking was done wrong.
I'm hoping that's what happened anyway. :cheeseeni:

And interestingly, women from what I remember only burn out from channeling too much of the Source (e.g. The End of Manetheren). It feels a very male Aes Sedai thing to wrestle the Source from someone, since channeling Saidin is less guiding weaves and more wrestling control, from my memory of the descriptions—another reason it feels wrong.

Welcome!

The Silmarillion is my favourite book :pleased-1:
I love the poetic nature of several of the tales, especially the intro to the tale of Beren & Luthien, with the remarks on it being an Age of Shadow, and yet even in the darkness, in some places light could be found.
