They are currently working on organizing A- blood drives, as that is what they need most, apparently.

...Crap. That's me. :( I'm not in Texas, but I know blood is/can be shipped when the need is dire. I've set up an appointment for Saturday, for Dareth and I both, though he's not A-, at the local centre.

I don't want to. :( I'm still scared of needles. But, well... I'm A-. And I know it's somewhat uncommon, being a negative type. bleh. *whimper*

Elorenya, just look other ways when they're taking the needles forth... I used to donate blood, but was scared (still am?) of needles. Just think of other nice things and don't look at it! :)

:pleased-1: I used to nearly pass-out for doctor-required blood draws, lol, which are far less in quantity. Pregnancy helped -- all the pokes and jabs! exposure therapy! -- but I have NO idea how the last phlebotomist affected my phobia, because it hasn't been drawn since... She was drawing my blood for a thorough typing (not just the ABO+/- stuff) during labour, and was very, very, very new.
She jabbed the needle in and started fishing for the vein. :eek :x
... Let's just say her technique needed work. If I hadn't been in the middle of a contraction while she was working, I'd've been climbing the walls...

I can't give blood (less than 6 months since my last tattoo) :( and I'm A- too - although in the wrong country to help Texas).

Welp, we went, and it wasn't as bad as I'd been fearing! I'm cold now, though, haha. Glad I brought a sweater!

I don't know if I can give blood, but I doubt it. And while I've mostly got over my fear of needles, I am still very hard to draw blood from me, because I have deep, small veins that like to run away :indifferent: The doctor can have trouble filling three small test tubes, I doubt I will be able to donate half a liter :look:

I just want to mention how proud I am of Elo for overcoming her needle-phobia to give blood. She's awesome. <3

Indeed! Very awesome reason to overcome a fear!

Also, based on my facebook feed for the last several days, I’m beginning to thing we ought to have a thread for runs and races people can join- and a place where photos can be posted and shared of runs and races for Boston already done. Or- I could encourage runner to post their race info and photos here...

New thread would probably let it be organized more, especially if it was a sitewide announcement.

I just want to say thank you, to those who donated in whatever way they could. I'm a MA native, though I am living in NH currently for school. I went home to give what assistance I could. I had friends and family there at the race, at the finish line, and volunteering all over the course. I have volunteered myself in years past, and just happened to be unable to do so this year. The Boston Marathon is a huge part of life when you live in the area. You always know someone who's running/working/cheering someone else on.

That being said, remember to donate blood regularly if you are able to do so. Blood only has so long a shelf-life, and you never know when it's going to be needed. Resources are shifted cross-country to regions that need aid. As a nursing student I see patients getting blood transfusions for all kinds of needs.

Your donation may save someone's life!

My family is safe and sound, but a close friend was not as lucky. He took a bit of shrapnel-like metal to one leg and has a perforated eardrum. At the end of the day a lot of people were thanking their lucky stars that they were still in one piece, all other wounds aside.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend Aleyna. I worked for over 15 years about a three minute walk from where this happened. This was the first year I did not go to the Marathon.....

Another local! Thank you. He'll be ok, but that day was so, so terrifying. Not to mention the days that followed. This was the first year I hadn't been at the marathon in a long, long time. Being so far away ('far' in New England standards, up here in NH), I was terrified for days about people in the city who I hadn't heard from. I hope you and yours are well, following all of this!
