Although I have never been close with Riley, nor has this impacted me financially, I just want to state that I support our Execs/Board.
As sorry as I am for the entire situation, I'm glad the ban has been given effect and as someone else mentioned, if there was an additional requirement I would ask that Riley write an open letter of explanation and apology to ALL members of TarValon.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and I will be keeping an eye on the updates.

I was and am very surprised by what happened. In the first place I feel sad for all the people whose money he's stolen, and everyone whose trust he broke. There are a lot of people he hurt in this community by doing this, I can only offer them my sympathy and support.

As the Board is in the process of doing no doubt, it needs to be evaluated how this happened. (new?) Checks and balances must be put into place. But no system is ever 100% full-proof. All we can do is learn from this and try to prevent this from happening again.

I also sympathize with Riley. Being in financial dire straights can be hard. He made a horrible decision by stealing, but I would think that Riley himself once upon a time could never have imagined he would come to this. Hopefully more of an explanation is forthcoming on why he did this, but I also hope that he has enough support left and/or is getting help to address the issues that brought him to this place. The place where he decided to steal from those who care about him, and who might have helped him if he'd asked. And I can empathize with how hard it is to reach out for help sometimes, and all the complicated emotions of pride and shame and embarrassment and fear etc. that can go with asking. I also know how when your back is against the wall you do things you never thought you would.

I can sympathize, I can empathize and I can and do forgive Riley. That said I do think he should be taken to court. Being a great person in general does not take away from the fact that what he did is a crime, a felony. Justice isn't only served to those who are rotten, unsympathetic or friendless. How I personally feel about Riley has no bearing on what the right thing to do is. And the justice system is there to try those who are generally good people who made bad decisions, as well as those who are bad people who like to do bad just because. And because I am a member of this community, and therefore not particularly neutral, it should be a neutral party that will weigh and decide what if anything should be the consequences (beyond his being banned) of his crime. That is what the court is for. If there are mitigating circumstances, I'm sure the court will hear those and take them into consideration also.

Lastly I want to add my thank you and my support to our Board. I can only imagine how hard this is, and if there's anything any of you need, just let me know! :grouphug

I was never close with Riley, but I sympathize with those who were. This is really hard on the community. When such a trusted long-term member does something ilke this... it's inconceivable.

As horrible as I feel about it (even not knowing Riley personally and just seeing him around the boards), I think a ban was/is the write course of action. If anything deserves a full-size ban, it's this. I'll leave any option of letting him rejoin in (probably distant) future up to the admins, but I do find it unlikely that he'll want to come back and face everyone here. It would certainly never be the same again for him on these boards and would be hard on both Riley and people who have been directly affected by this.

I am amazed (though nor surprised) at how fast the admins got on this and at the extraordinary generosity of Mother and Caerwyn Gaidin. I'm sure all the admins are really busy getting this sorted out and figuring out the legal ramifications and I wish you all the best of luck.

I also, like many on here, am really encouraged by the response of the community. I knew TV was a special community and this proves it. People are understandably hurt, angry, conflicted, infurirated, sad... and any number of other emotions. But the way everyone has banded together, offered to help and generally supported each other in this crisis. The strength of the community here has really shone through and I am so incredibly proud to be a member of a group of such amazing people.

Again, admins and execs, I really appreciate everything you're doing. :grouphug If anyone can lead the organization through such a difficult time, it's you. You have my full support.

"The Tower almost seemed to groan as she looked at it. It had stood for so long, had seen so much. Now it had been wounded so deeply that it still bled a day later.

And yet it stood. Light bless them, it stood. It rose high, wounded but sound, pointing toward a sun hidden by clouds above. It stood defiant of those who would break it, within and without."

Wow, I read this earlier and I've been kinda thinking about it all day. I don't remember if I personally interacted with him or not,but I've definitely seen the name. I can't even imagine what some of y'all have been going through, being so close and all. It's extremely amazing the amount of civility and dignity that has been displayed here. A community this strong can truly pick itself up and carry on, whatever path lies ahead. I don't really know a lot of people here, and there's probably not a lot of difference I can make, but if there's any way I could contribute, maybe even a small donation or something, do please let me know.

I am shocked and saddened by this news. I have been to Riley's home and know him and while what he did was so very wrong, he had to have been desperate. Either that or he is just a no good cheat. I have faith in the Board that they will get this rectified and appreciate all their hard work.

At the risk of bad netiquette I am back-to-back posting but do so because this is my unofficial statement:

When Vivianna called me on my cell phone yesterday afternoon and told me what had happened, I profoundly underestimated the reaction of this community. I expected far worse, and the fact that a 9 page thread on this topic is 100% flame-free is something I couldn't even contemplate. If I could transmit this thread into space so the aliens could see what people are capable of, I would do it.

With that, I am going to bed. [3:30 am US Central time] Tonight has been a long two nights for the TV leadership team, and you should be proud of them.

I am, really, just shocked and speechless.

Anything else I have to say just pales in comparison to what is going on.

Thank you to the Board members, Mother, and generosity of those who are working together to make FB happen.

I'm still crushed. I've been crushed all day.

I'm not going to Fall Ball, but I'm devistated for all who are.

I'm inspired by the speed and thoroughness of our Board and blessed to know Caerwyn.

Thre is so much love and compassion for everyone in this thread that it makes my heart swell with pride for being a part of this community!

Thank you to the Board. You are marvelous.
Thank you to Hammar O'Justice.... your work will be much appreciated in the days and weeks to come (and thanks for making us a shining example for the aliens to see that mankind is wonderful! :p)

More than anything else, though......

Thank you to all of Tar Valon. You have restored my truly waning opinion of the human race as a whole. You have shown me, once again, that no matter what....... there is love.

THIS. So much this. I'm not around as much as I'd like, but it's things like this that make me proud of this community and proud to be a part of it.

Winterdawn, Myralin and Stephan - thanks. You guys nailed it right on the head. ;)
