The first time I read the series, I got stuck on this book and ended up giving up (at least until several years later), so no, you're not the only one who had trouble with this one. I'm glad you're writing the First Time Reader articles again!

I think very few people don't have a hard time getting through and finishing this book. I've missed reading your articles
I do however, disagree with your comments about Tuon. I don't want to say anything that might be spoilerish, but I've always thought of her as a strong, beautiful woman who would be an equal of Mat's. In my opinion, there are many women who look more beautiful with shaved heads.

I completely agree Neria. I think women like that can be really sexy, and I feel Tuon has yet to have her opportunity to shine. If it wasn't clear, (and I haven't re-read this article in a while since I wrote it so it's very likely I wasn't,) Tuon doesn't have a lot of time spent on her once she is around Mat. I feel like once I get more from her, like clues to her thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and motivations, I will really grow to love her more. I expect we will learn these things soon, given her circumstances at the end of the novel! (I mean... she's paired with Mat--she has to be amazing to reach that caliber of awesomeness!)
