I was informed by a friend on facebook that I should check the location of the next Anni. But believe it or not, I still look at local events from time to time. You guys will never be completely rid of me.

Just a question about "smoking policies" even if it changes hands. California is a great place to quit smoking. There is no smoking in restaurants or bars, as in most states, but I seem to remember restrictions of no smoking within 50 feet of a building? In Arcata, California (which is extremely liberal) has absolutely no smoking in the public square (one had to leave the festivals and go down alleys to smoke). I also heard that they were trying for laws in some of the cities for no smoking in cars to no smoking in your own backyard. I know you are all doing a bang up job and Yelenia is doing a wonderful job of posting this so early. I am not trying to cause waves but am asking an honest question. What are the smoking laws currently on the books in that area? I heard Disney was a non smoking park. Thank you for taking the time to consider my questions.

the smoking rules vary by county, and sometimes even by city, and most theme parks have "smokers spots" which are usually a bench or other location that is set off away from the main area where smokers can congregate.

The PDF doesn't mention the 50 feet number, but what I've heard in the past is that you can be asked to move if you're right outside the entrance to a building where people have to pass by you in order to get in or out, since you're forcing them to deal with second hand smoke against their will. It certainly doesn't consist of an all-out ban on smoking outside buildings, or 50 feet away, since you'll find buildings that have ash trays set up not too far away from entrances/exits for people taking smoking breaks.

I wouldn't say California is "hostile" to smoking, as some do, but it does feel strongly about not making otherwise healthy people (customers, employees, or even just passers-by) possibly compromise their health through dealing with second hand smoke in public places. That's the rationale behind the laws, anyway.

Coming from Seattle where the 30’ from the building rule is somewhat-strongly enforced... California is NOT strictly against smoking.

Compared to the Pacific Northwest, its hardly a blue-state at all.
