I'm excited about California and LA being selected. :)

However, I have some questions about the place that was mentioned as an option for an event location. I was perusing their group policies and found this:

Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol
The Coptic Village is smoke-free, drug-free and alcohol-free facilities. Use of cigarettes, drugs and alcohol is strictly forbidden and will not be tolerated.

If we were to select this place for a location, it appears we'd be strictly forbidden to drink alcohol or smoke.

There's other rules in there that bother me, such as this one:

Swimming attire outside of the pool in the pool area:

All guests should wear a t-shirt on top of swimming suit at all times. No sitting with just swimming suit.

But that's not a big deal compared to the "no drinking" policy. Although if they're making a fuss about covering skin, how are they going to feel about us walking around with our boobs flaunted in corsets. :P

yeah, no drinking would really interfear with the traditional Goldschlager toast, and many a Green would be upset over no Balefire, and i dont think the Tequila Brotherhood would be keen with this.

LOL

No drinking at Anni? Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I'm NEW here and I even know this.

Well, this is cool though. At least if I can't make it to FB, I know there will be another event close by.

You're lucky I logged back into the site :P

We've already worked out a deal regarding both, so disregard the website on the drinking/smoking point.

I really doubt anyone will be swimming, but since we'll be booking the whole site - this is likely also a non-issue.

Second point - I stated we were exploring options. As with our troubles with Michigan - we won't book at a dry site.

Futher site-specific questions? EMAIL naevents@tarvalon.net. They will get answered faster - and it saves from the panic that seemed to already be building in this thread. When i get an email that looks like it pertains to the masses (as this would have been) - I'm pretty decent about circling back and addressing it in the thread as well.

Behavior
The Coptic Village is a Christian facility. Christian behavior is expected from each guest. Inappropriate language is unacceptable.

they emphasize each.

The site is in the middle of changing hands - discussions have been had between Tree and the site owner regarding who we are, what we do, what can be expected, and our traditions.

The link was provided to give an idea of location and images. I'm sorry this is starting to become a witch hunt for problems instead of "hey, did y'all cover this?" emails.

If anyone has questions regarding how we vetted the site - see my previous post regarding email.

Every time people post in threads with their concerns, they get disparaged and told they're causing problems and going on witch hunts and causing panics. I'm sorry people had legitimate questions about the site based on what was linked to. Maybe we should have a commenting policy in place that no criticisms or concerns may be posted in these threads. Or maybe we should just lock the threads. Obviously, people want to discuss this in the open, not via email, as previous admonitions to email have been ineffective.

I prefer to post my question here rather than emailing - feel free to answer it or not, as you choose - if the site is changing hands, will it be owned by the LA Coptic Orthodox Diocese, who will receive our money, or by another corporation/org/individual?

The current owners are the LA Coptic Orthodox Diocese.

The tone of "clearly you haven't looked too much into this" is what is bothersome. That is often why accusation-style questions are discouraged.

And yes, the website y'all found is being addressed with the site owners.

I have faith the admins will pick an appropriate site for our needs. I was mostly just curious if we had some negotiations going on that went above what the site stated they expect from guests. And since restrictions on drinking areas caused some moving around of entertainment to be all in our central hub this past weekend, I felt it was worth pointing out and getting a response that we had something cleared if we were gonna go with this place. :cheeseeni:

It's nice to read that the ownership is switching hands... there were quite a few things on their rules that bother me, I just wanted to point out the vital one of the drinking rule as its the major one.

Thank-you for the prompt reply, Yele. :)

Hi folks!

Those are good questions. No need to panic yet though. While this is one of the proposed sites, and may even be favored initially, there are others in the bid that we are also looking at. I think some of the confusion can be cleared up very quickly. Our local liaisons *have* already spoken with the site manager and will do so again. It also looks like they have a .org and a .com. Their .org site says absolutely nothing about these rules that I can see.

Rest assured that the Events team will go over all the sites and pick the one that best meets our needs!

I'm really not certain where those rules are on the site I posted - I had to copy/paste and google search to reach that site. Since I made such a deal about our restrictions in our daily announcements, I figured you would know/understand that I wouldn't let us fall into the same pit of ninja drink/smokers. But yes, they are being reviewed. Further review of the site I linked will also show that we'll be booking the space solid, so no worries of corrupting the youth.

I'm a little leery of the "Christian" behavior bit as well, but I trust that the admins will work it out.

I wonder if we could get tickets to a taping of Big Bang Theory or something like that?
