A surprising amount of people at where I work have read the Wheel of Time. That alone makes for interesting work, but it's not the subject of this post. More than a few have read the WoT and about all have said that book 10 tends to be 'slow' Now I've just started reading it. I'm where Mat had just started moving again in the beginning of the book. So far it's not that slow for me. I've read up to book 9 before now, and have been dreading this book, but so far I haven't had an issue. Are there people out ther that thought this book 'slow'... are there those that didn't?

It is slow, partially because Jordan used it to re-sync up the various timelines. It is LESS slow when you haven't been waiting for it for years and aren't expecting to have to wait years for 11, however.

What Elorenya said. Book 10 is where I got stuck and actually put down the series for a few years before someone convinced me to give it another chance.

The first two times I read book 10, I got through it ok. This time I am having a horrible time getting through it. The Faile and Perrin saga makes me want to :desk I have to skip Perrin and Faile's POV's, or I will stab myself. If you can get to book 11, you'll be good. Every other POV I like, it's just Faile and Perrin's POV in book 10 that makes me want to stab myself in the eyeballs.

Book 10 was the first book I had to wait for, as the series was released up to 9 when I picked it up. After the cliffhanger of 9, I was expecting momentous things in 10. And I don't feel they happened. Oh, I can appreciate why people were reluctant to believe what had gone on... but yeah. It was quite flat. I've read the book all the way several times - when it was released, and before books 11, 12 and 13. Each time it got harder to wade through. By the time I was doing my re-read for AMoL, I just gave up and read the chapter summaries in the Library here. So much more palatable

Arec - I agree with you completely about the Perrin/Faile tale :x

That book took me forever! Although to be fair I did start it before Christmas holidays, and stopped to read a couple of other things before I came back and finished it.

Book 10 had its moments (I always liked reading about the Salidar Aes Sedai), but generally ... yes, extremely slow and uneventful. It was a letdown, considering that book 9 ended with one of the best and most eventful chapters in the series.

I've also heard that RJ was not content with CoT, but that he didn't have time to rewrite it to his liking.

I suppose it's in Jordan's credit that things didn't slow until book 10. I would guess that at somepoint he would have had to slow things down just to provide background and such. Alsoto make it to book 10 before slowing is a sign of some planning. What's the quoate? A plan is only good for the first 5 minutes?

Aaaannnndddd... I'm done :P I finally finished book 10. I hope now, that means things pick up again :D I must say, while slow, it does provide the framework needed, I'm sure, for the rest of the books.

Yeah... I remember trying to read book 11 after the gap between it and book 10. And not having a clue what was going on  I had to re-read book 10 and that was... not fun :rofl

Yeah, late to the party, but book 10 was definitely the peak of ugh-ness for me. The series really dragged for me around 7/8 to 10. There were definitely some highlights thrown in there, but for the most part, that stretch always makes me question my dedication to getting through the reread. It definitely picks up steam starting at 11, though, and is pretty nonstop from there to the end.

So I'm now about 60% of the way through book 11. It is by far much faster than book 10. :D Almost to the point of being 'jarring'. I kind of feel as if I missed some things, or that RJ skipped a head in time without really letting the reader know.
