TarValon.Net has been home to thousands of Wheel of Time fans over the years. With so many people, there is also a great amount of diversity in our community--globally, economically, and in other ways. Over the years we have done our best to maintain a welcoming and civil atmosphere so that, despite our differing viewpoints, we could still have fun together.
It has come to the attention of Executives that some of the actions taken by some members are viewed as bullying by others. We take this seriously. There have been recent instances where there has been talk of harassment and threats which we also take seriously.
In light of this, the Board of Directors, Officers, and Department Directors will discuss this matter at the Fall Administrative Meeting in September. Similar to how the annual Membership Survey is held to gather membership thoughts on various areas of our community to help Execs make decisions, we are doing a survey on bullying.
Similar to the Membership Survey:
The survey is anonymous. There are fields to in put your name if you wish, but I emphasize that it is optional.
Only myself, Jeral, and Ennariam will be able to see the full results so that we can compile the statistics and report.
In the interest in transparency, a brief report on the survey results and how they were utilized in the Fall Admin Meeting will be provided. This is done on the Lime software, so the issue of timing out is still there.
Dissimilar to the Membership Survey:
Demographics are requested in a more generalized form. The reasoning for this is threefold:
1) to see if the tenor of comments by region/age/etc. is consistent, or if certain groups may have differing perspectives,
2) to provide an extra layer to protect anonymity of participants, and,
3) to see how meaningful this format is and if it can be utilized for the Membership Survey.
A rough draft of the final report will be provided to the Board and Execs, instead of line items. This means that comments will be separated from demographic data to further obfuscate who said what (and thus protect anonymity).
Due to the nature of the survey and how seriously we take it, it was developed more swiftly and thus does not have as much research, testing, graphics or prizes associated with it.
Due to a clerical error, Citizens can chose Guest or Novice/Recruit and list that they are a citizen in the location comment field.
The survey will run from Sunday, August 19 to Saturday, September 1.
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the survey and provide your thoughts so that we can continue to ensure a safe and fun environment for everyone.
