Problem with private messaging

I just noticed that I have a slight problem with my private messaging. While I can get to my inbox messages, the newest message in my sent box is from August 2012. I cleared out some of my older messages and still have the problem. Is this anything that can be resolved?

Can I guess?
Sent messages don't go into the sent box unless the 'Save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder' is toggled on. I was puzzled by that myself at some point.

But is there an option somewhere to make that choice a default for myself?

Edit: Yes there is. At the General Settings of the profile.
