The best place in Texas would be Big Bend, but I think it is too remote for an Anni bid.

I thought it was preferred Anni be at least close by an airport?

^ Well the Estes Park isn't that close, couple hours drive doesn't seem to be a limitation..

I honestly can't remember how long the drive took us from Denver to Estes Park. I know it was over an hour. We were just having so much fun in the car and then we had to wait for the elk to get off the road at one point. :cheeseeni:

It's about an hour and a half to Estes Park from DIA, Google thinks, and about two hours up to Big Bear Lake from LAX. So there's remote, and there's remote. Big Bend is five or six hours from the nearest international airport.

I learned my lesson driving to Estes Park. GPS does not work all the time in the mountains, so... bring written directions. Or have a navigator that says, "Turn right." ;) We made it there and there were good stops for amenities along the way. 5-6 hours would be a bit too long, though. That's nearly what we did to get to Michigan without flying.

Oh well.. fair enough, I have considered trying to put in a bid for lake of the ozarks but I am told from MCI its about a 3-4 hour drive? *shrugs* I can only go based on what others have told me I've never been out there myself.

Having lived in KC for quite a while, the Ozarks is a very reasonable bid location, imo.

If I can afford a car rental or go in with someone then a 3-4 hour drive isn't that big of a deal, though if I've been on a plane and in the airports for awhile not sure I'd look forward to the drive. It would mainly depend on how far I had to travel overall to get there.

I've been lucky that only one party I've had to get a rental. I don't know how easy it is to find rides these days as we had help with those a long time ago and when I think they started to quit doing that for Anni, we carpooled from Texas anyway and I was able to afford a rental for 10th though I think we could have gotten transport too. For Fall Balls, I'm use to shuttles of some kind from airport to the hotel.

So basically, how easy it is to get to does factor whether I go or not because I would prefer not to bother with a rental if at all possible though I would be willing to go in on one or chip in gas if a local got me. Lots of times the tickets are bad enough that's why Colorado and a couple other locations I can get decent prices, but others not so much coming from South Texas. If I can barely do the plane ticket and ticket cost, then having to get a rental and all of that would possible nix me going. I like being able to get to the location easily. Now if the location is bad ass enough, I can make exceptions! but these days extra costs factor in regardless. But that's why I just wait for a location that cost wise is more doable, which I'm sure most do, so hopefully soon!

If I lived in Dallas, however, I think I'd be golden though as there seems to be cheap deals from there a lot.

I use to go to the lake 3-4 times a year. It is closer to St Louis, just take I70 to Hwy 54 and go south and you will be there in no time. I would need to GPS it to see just how long it would take. I wouldnt think more than 3 hours though. I had wanted to put a bid for out here in the DC area, but ran out of time because school was kicking me in the shin repeatedly the last few weeks. There is a nice place I saw on line but I wanted to actually drive down there to see if before I put a bid in....maybe next year.

Keeli, I think it's probably closer to 2 hours than 3 ;) But it's been awhile since I made the drive :cheeseeni:

Where at the Lake were you thinking? I am trying to remember a place that could hold this group.

Well that is the problem I am not familiar with it at all, I've lived in KC 11+ years now and have never been out there. I would be willing to do all teh footwork if I only knew how to research finding locations..

It is three hours from MCI (kansas city's main international Airport), per google maps, 2.5 from St Louis :) So yea SL definitely a bit closer :)

We had an event in Tennessee a long time ago...personally, I love Tennessee and it is in the middle :joy. It would just be nice to have a "middle" place that isn't too north, too south, too west or too east :look:.

Just looked it up: the geographic center of the United States is in Lebanon, Kansas. Any Kansas people want to organize? :D I would go to Kansas. I have no idea what is there, but I'd go.
