Have the perfect spot for the next Anniversary location? Tired of having to travel across the continent when there are totally kickin' rad places for us to host the event in your own backyard? Has it been a while, and you're ready for the Tower to throw another party in your neck of the woods?

If you would like to bid on a location for our Anniversary 2015 event, please send an e-mail titled 2015 ANNIVERSARY BID to naevents@tarvalon.net, events@tarvalon.net, and officers@tarvalon.net. Bids need to be submitted by April 25, 2014.

Things to keep in mind when submitting a bid:
If your bid is selected, YOU will be an integral part of the planning. By making a bid, you are volunteering to be the Local Liaison.
What does that mean? You will be my eyes and ears on the spot. You will be expected to do a lot of the leg work to find accomodations, local activities, and transportation options.
Anni is generally held in the spring (think February or March) in a campground type location. Site should have cabin-like living arrangements, kitchen space for meal preps, and space for events such as sword fighting or archery.
Preferred site locations would be moderately isolated. We tend to be fairly loud so being 10 feet from a cabin holding a girl scout meet wouldn't be the best location.
Normal Anni attendance is 75-100 people.

Please include the following information in your bid and aim to use the following headings:

Name, rank and organization of submitter(s)

Overview

Location
Personal experience with the area
Why you think the location would be our best option

Location
City (overview & details)
Activities (museums, sites, and other touristy things to do in the area)
Campsite, Cabin and Hotel Options (URL & Phone Numbers)
Transportation (Major Airports in the area, options for people to get to the site)

Support
Point of Contact - Who would serve as local liaison for the event?
Other – additional Tower volunteers who will help facilitate event

Consider the following questions in your narrative overview:
Approximately how far is the site from major airports?
How much is the bus/shuttle from the airports, and what are the hours of operation?
How much, approximately, are flights from a few major US airports (Seattle, LA, Denver, Houston, Altanta, Detroit, Chicago, NYC, DC area).
How much can members expect to budget for some of the extra activities the site may offer? (if applicable)

Please feel free to send us an email if you have any questions and we're looking forward to seeing your bids!

If I'm remembering correctly, the site needs to be somewhere that allows alcohol, right?

That's what I figured. Sadly, that rules out every large campground area I've found around here. :(

Wasn't it decided to go back to Colorado every couple of years since that site is so great? Since the last one was anni 2012 if I recall, wouldn't this be the year to go back?

There were a lot of people with altitude sickness issues in Colorado, so I don't think that was ever decided on. Not saying it shouldn't be there, but I thought it was kind of put forth and caused a huge debate, but I never heard it was resolved. Personally, I loved the site in Michigan a lot more, but that's me. :D

I'd love for it to be somewhere close, since I can only take off one day and couldn't make this year's because of that, but I wouldn't actually recommend Wisconsin again. Too soon. Maybe I'll put in a bid in a year or two. There are very few places that don't allow drinking here.

Do eet. I've wanted to visit Houston for a long while and this would give me a reason.

I'm sure they'll consider all bids that are submitted. :D I'm just greedy and hope mine gets picked, is all. ;) I'm not one of the people who votes to decide.

If you submitted a bid, good luck! :D May the best bid win out. :joy

Sonea (Director of Events & Conferences) is on LOA as she moves houses this week, so I'll jump in with what I know and then look to her and Lillian to fill in details.

Yes, Mele, you are correct that at the Admin Meeting of 2012 the decision was agreed-to that we would use the Pattie Hyde Barclay Cabin at the YMCA of the Rockies campground in Estes Park, Colorado every 2-3 years. The size, location, amenities and cost of the facility has worked for us so well in the past we wanted to make a habit of returning, and so at that meeting we agreed for the site to be the default selection after a maximum of three years.

However, as this year's bid solicitation window approached, I made the same inquiry and was informed that the decision had been overturned in a subsequent admin meeting. As I'm not an admin any more I don't have knowledge of that discussion, and I'm not sure when/where/if the updated information was posted, but my understanding is that the Estes Park location is still in consideration, but not a default selection.

If anyone puts in for Texas, I would be happy to help out!! I know some Texas peeps should know that, but anyone else too. I also always liked Colorado. Also, if it's in Texas, maybe someone else can help me drag Amaria out of hiding. :look:

Either way, excited to hear the outcome! :joy then I can see if it's doable or not since I'm missing this year. :cry
