Conversely, given that this decision has already been made, I don't see any harm in people sharing their thoughts.

It just seems like beating a dead horse at this point, to me. But I've shared why I feel this change was badly needed, so I'll bow out and let others feel as they will.

There's no harm in it, you're right. And people are allowed to wish it were otherwise.

To me, arguments in favor of reversing a change like this feel unsettling and frustrating because of the very real, very creepy and gross and harmful history of the site wrt the safety of minors. But I absolutely do not feel like you have ill intent, and I want to make sure that much is clear.

I've fired people before for inappropriate actions done in front of minors while the person was in a professional capacity, and that gets messy. It was either that or be held accountable other ways for the person's action as a company supervisor. Similar actions done in front of a minor in a non professional capacity but still where people are accountable for their actions is an even gray-er situation that is even messier.

I definitely agree that the age limitations will be far better with way less gray issues like that, especially given that people with less than appropriate backgrounds for interacting with minors have been known to be members here. And ESPECIALLY when we call ourselves a drinking club with a book problem, I think that having the age change to the American legal age of majority is a very safe and reasonable move.
