Also, if you want to donate in a very Jewish fashion, it is a custom to donate in multiples of 18. This is because Hebrew numbers use Hebrew letters instead of Roman numerals. The word " חי" (chai) which means life is the reason why. חי means life, and my Hebrew name חיה is the female version of the word. The first letter ח (chet) has a number value of 8 and the second letter י (yud) has a number value of 10. Add those up and you have 18. To donate חי is donating life. So 36 is double chai, 72 is triple chai and so on. That's why you will see specific value donations for $18 and $36 in some of the charities I've listed.
