So, I am still fairly new here. I've been lurking for a couple of months and have already posted an intro and some of you probably know me from IRC but I am going to post again. I am a little nervous about posting but a couple members that know me and my situation feel like it may be good for me to vent and put my situation out there so, here goes...
I live in a trailer in Tennessee. I have a job but I had a bad month and at the same time that I had a bad month, my utility bill tripled, my health insurance tripled and I found out my landlord is actually a slum lord that is ripping me off. They served me with an eviction notice on January 28th for unpaid rent. I am behind in rent but not as much as they say but I can't prove it because they didn't give me receipts and I was an idiot and didn't insist on receipts when I paid the rent a couple of times. Now I have an eviction notice. They served me with it on January 28th, on March 2nd they can go to the general sessions court and file with the courthouse and then I will have a court date in about 2 weeks and then I'll have 10 days to vacate. If I let it go until I go to court, I will have to be out by the middle or even end of March but I can't afford to stay here, even without paying anymore rent and save up the money I need to move to a new place. I do not have a car and the county I live in does not have public transporation. The bus to Knoxville where my doctors are is very expensive and the cab to go to the grocery store is pricey, too. I talked to the Coalition for the Homeless in this county and they told me if I qualify, they will help me with first months' rent, security deposit and utility deposit but I'll have to stay in this county, which means no public transportation. They also said my rent can't be anymore than $405/mo and all the apartments with low rent have long waiting lists, as you can imagine. I called several places in Knoxville and they won't help me at all because I am not a resident of the county. I just got my new utility bill today and it is $421.43 for one month and I live in a singlewide trailer (small) and I live alone. My electric bill has more than tripled because there's no insulation and there are gaps in the doors and windows. I really do not know what I am going to do. I have pretty much resigned myself to being homeless within the next 30 days. Even if I do somehow manage to save up enough money to move (while paying the essentials here) and then am lucky enough to find a place that I can afford, I do not have any family or friends in the state and have no one to move me so I'm probably going to leave all my stuff behind. It's not like I have much. Probably two pick up truck loads but what I do have is mine and I am just sick about all of it. I really don't know what else to do. I have called churches and county organizations. I have tried talking to my landlord. I am working as much as possible to make as much as possible but while I'm here, I still have to pay utilities, buy groceries, pay my health insurance and pay for my internet and phone because I work from home. I live well within my means, just ..such as life, everything happened at once. Bills went up, income went down.
Anyway, I know this was long and I am not usually one to talk about my personal life but I am just ..at a loss. Am open to suggestions. I just don't want to end up homeless, out of a job and lose what little material possessions I do have.
