I'll just post my thoughts as i go along. I just finished the prologue.

Because of the nature of my ADHD, i tend to want to jump ahead into the main part of the series, and i don't pay much attention to the prologue. I almost feels like i haven't read this prologue since i picked up the series in 2001, even though I've re-read the series at least 3 times, i think?

Anywho.

Talk about opening lines for a fantasy series. No wonder i kept up with this book. Destruction, death, earthquake after-shocks right in the first two sentences. Also, how insane are these weaves he used? Lightning that chased people down...indoors. Fire that did the same. And.. the stones of the building literally swallowing victims.

Also, Ishamael doesn't really go into it, but Lews Therin's madness is incredibly deep. Visual hallucinations enough that he doesn't see the absolute horror movie scene around him, and doesn't perceive the after-shocks. He literally only cares about finding Illenya to greet the one other sentient being there with him... and he only shares one tiny lucid moment with him.

I think this is really the first time I've thought about his mental state past trying to get through the prologue.

Another thing that popped into my mind that has nothing to do with either point... The color gray.

As this is a re-read, and the series is loooong...i don't recall if it was mentioned, but. I was thinking that Lews Therin might have worn gray along with the Dragon's red and gold because it signifies the Tamyrlin. As in the White of the Flame and the black if the Fang.

Hmm, is it worth switching? I loved the voices by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer...

It depends. Personally, as much as I love Kate Reading's voice, I really struggle with the way that Michael Kramer reads some of the boys. He just sounds too old for me. Whereas I really like the different voices Pike does for the characters. But if you really like their voices, you should stick with them.

I'd like to join! Have we started yet? If so, where are we?

Finally got to do a bit of reading this weekend! Some quick thoughts:

For all that people rightly give Jordan a hard time about his ability to write romance, I do think he starts telegraphing Nynaeve and Lan's relationship here (pg 271 of my season 1 tie in cover edition). I remember not being surprised by their romance the first go around, and I think this scene is part of why. Also her defense of him and his tracking skills in ch 18/on pg 300 ("he was not seen")
