Hey! As you hopefully know by now, I’m Leala and I’m the membership administrator for the newest members here om TarValon.Net. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to me and I’ll help you out

So, after making an account you’ve become a Visitor, now what? Go explore the site and Discord. Don’t hesitate to post anywhere. Read the stickies in the forums before posting, other than that; if you can see it, you can post in it. That goes for both the forums and the Discord.

When you’ve tested the waters a little bit, and decided to stay, you should apply to become a full member The first rank is called Citizen.

Q: Can I become an Aes Sedai?
A: Yes, you can become an Aes Sedai on the site, but it is not an instantaneous transformation. It requires some time and work. You can also become a Gaidin and be bonded to an Aes Sedai, but you cannot be both. You may choose the path of Aes Sedai or Gaidin regardless of your gender identity.

Q: What are the requirements for avatars?
A: Avatars must be humanoid. You must have permission from the artist if you use another’s work. Please reach out if you need help finding an avatar, both avatar makers like picrew, and Open Access images from the Met and the Smithsonian are great places to start looking, you don't need permission to use these! When you upload your profile picture, it will automatically crop it to the default 200x200 size. More information may be found in the Membership Manual here.

Q: What are the requirements for signatures?
A: You must have permission from the artist to use another’s work. There are basically two kinds of signatures: text signatures and graphical signatures. If you just type some words and put a smiley or two, that is a text banner. If you attach an image for a graphical signature, no banner may exceed 450x100 pixels. There are a large number of programs you may use to make a signature, and all of full members in the Introductions forum will be happy to talk about making signatures if you’d like their thoughts. No animated or flash banners are allowed.

Hi! Citizenship is how you become a full member of our community. Once you become a Citizen, you gain access to a lot more forums, and our Tar Valon Discord server too. A small stint as a Citizen is required to enter the Tower as either a novice or a recruit. Or, if you want, you can stay a Citizen for a long as you want. If you'd rather not become a Citizen and stay with a registered account, that's fine as well. It's 100% up to you.

There is no monetary cost to any level of TV.Net membership. Anyone can choose to donate if they want to, but it’s not required for any part of membership. Donations aren’t a hiring factor for any of the volunteer positions around the site either.

The only activities with costs involved are Real Life events, and those costs (renting the facilities, shared food, etc.) are split only among the attendees and are clearly announced ahead of time.

This is a fairly recent change. When the site was founded we had a lot of young members. It's now been 20+ years and we have all grown up. You can read a detailed explanation here;

As our community continues to grow and evolve we are committed to looking forward at the organizations future and make the necessary adjustments to ensure it thrives. Our recent Membership Survey confirmed the average age of membership is mid-thirties and at this time we don’t believe it is appropriate to have minors interacting socially without parental consent.

As of today our membership requirements regarding age, as published in our Membership Manual have changed. The new age required for membership at TarValon.Net, Inc will now be 18 years old, unless specific conditions are met, see below. The update. (Note: these are being posted simultaneously so there may be a short delay before this link updates)

To become a Citizen, you must fill out an application, in addition to meeting several criteria. These include:

• Read this section of the Membership Manual about our Community.
• Be at least 18 years of age, or, have the direct and written consent of a Parent or Guardian who is a member in good standing of TarValon.Net, Inc.
• Have an account with at least 25 posts on our boards.

Now those specific conditions: Potential members under the age of 18 must receive consent for membership from a parent or guardian who is also a member of TarValon.Net, allowing us to verify that consent. Potential members will be required to receive written consent, via email from their parent or guardian which will then be retained by or Director of Membership.

Please note: Existing members who are under the age of 18 will be grandfathered in and retain their membership as required by Article 7 Section 1 of our Bylaws.

That being said, we still welcome everyone! You just need to be an adult to hang out in our more private areas

I'm pretty sure it requires an email to membership but one of the two tagged can tell you for certain. I had to change my name when I first joined because I forgot to add a surname.

Yes. You need to send an email to membership@tarvalon.net in order to change your name to something more in line with the Randland universe.
