I'm cheating a bit actually, as I started reading it when I was young, around 8 years old. I had my books constantly taken from me during class.

I never met anyone who read the series until JordanCon 9, so it wasn't something I thought about.

I started when I was 13. I didn't meet anyone else until the first JordanCon myself, which was about 11 years later.

    2 words: Blind Guardian

I got a download of their 2010 album At the Edge of Time a little after it was released. The last song on the album, cunningly enough entitled Wheel of Time, is an absolute masterpiece and quickly became my favourite song on the album, then my favourite song of theirs, then my favourite song ever.

Despite this it took me about 6 years to actually be bothered to look up the lyrics and try to piece together the meaning.

This lead to my discovering the song was based on a series of books, and, having at the time not long finished my 3rd reread of aSoIaF, i decided to just dive right in, desperate for something to fill the GRRM shaped hole in my life.

I feel like I made a pretty good choice. Now I'm like "winds of winter? :|"

One of my fave bands! I started reading WoT ten years before At the Edge of Time came out, but I wasn't surprised after their previous albums. I really like the Arabic musical intro to that track, it made me feel as if I was wandering in the Waste. The whole album is amazing, but those WoT inspired tracks are epic.

I know what you mean. Come on, GRRM, just get the next volume out already!

And welcome once again to Tar Valon Jerron!

Thanks Jarl, it's good to be here among fellow WoT and (happily) BG fans!

I have not heard of this band would really like to take some time and give them a listen then if they bring that much connection to their songs and the WoT series.

They are excellent, although to be fair they only have 2 songs based on WoT, but their other material spans a ton of other works of literature, like Tolkien, Phillip K Dick, Stephen King, H G Wells, et al ad infinitum.

I'll have to look them up then cause nothing in that reply sound bad and all of those authors have great pieces of work to right about.

When I was in the Marine Corps, one of my friends noticed I liked fantasy novels and recommended it to me and I was hooked from the beginning. There was a whole group of us that would get together and talk about it while waiting for the next book.

My gf at the time and I both went to the same college in New Orleans but her family was from Houston and mine was from Philly. We both went home during winter break. So to help with being far from away from each other we decided to both read The Eye of the World at the same time. Ten years later she's long gone but Wheel of Time still has my heart.

My brother had the whole series up to CoT when I started reading it. I was about 14. I've read a lot of other books that my brothers have had as well. Older brothers are the best!

Currently listening to: Blind Guardian's Wheel of Time :D

The manager of my local bookshop recommended the series to me when I was 13/14 but I wasn't interested as I thought it was some steampunk novel that I wasn't interested in reading. A couple of years later I saw the first 8 books on special offer and I bought them. Cheapness ruled and thank the Light it did!

I have discovered the Wheel of Time series only two months ago (just finishing book 4) and it blew me away. I couldn't believe that I haven't heard about it earlier considering I have read a lot of fantasy books. I was just telling a colleague at work that I would like to go to a convention in London and maybe cosplay when she mentioned that her friend does it every year and cosplays as the character from the Wheel of Time series. I googled it, read the synopsis and went straight to the bookshop. Now, I can't stop reading... :)

I was lurking around in the small school library when I was 14. I think I read every book they had on the fantasy shelf so I ended up with the first book and loved it. There was a boy in my class that I had never really connected with even tho we had been in the same class since we were 6 years old, but he saw me read Eye of the World on the school bus and it turned out he was a huge fan. We had daily book discussions on the bus for the next two years about the series. It was lovely. I miss him, but I still have the books. ^^

(AND I realized now when I'm re-reading that I didn't finish the series! So now I have 3 books that are completely new to me! :joy)

a boyfriend mentioned it to me when we were talking about books. I ran across EotW about 2 years later in a used book store and remembered him telling me about it, picked it up, and never looked back. That was 1997
