I want to learn Russian, Dutch/Afrikaans, Romanian, and Greek. That said, I learned Norwegian and Swedish a couple years ago and need to brush up before I'm conversational again.Hey welcome! Glad you've found us. What other languages interest you?
We have a fair number of folks doing Duolingo. I’ve done Swedish and could probably survive a vacation there. Doing Japanese right now.I want to learn Russian, Dutch/Afrikaans, Romanian, and Greek. I'm in the discord and have discovered the Duolingo channel. Speaking of, that's a really cool idea and a great way of keeping people motivated. Japanese is such a beautiful and complex language. We have a fair number of folks doing Duolingo. I’ve done Swedish and could probably survive a vacation there. Doing Japanese right now.
These are all excellent points. Plus there are so many things from the books that would not age well and/or translate well to the screen. This is a great question. The differences between the books and the show are very much needed and I think were handled with care. If they made an extremely faithful adaptation, the first season would have been info dump after info dump which is a huge turn off for most people. As it stands now, they're world building organically which is what you want from an adaptation. I think what people forget is that a story is an emotional journey. I see too many people who are mad that the show is not EXACTLY like the books forget this and reduce this epic fantasy to a collection of events.
As long as an adaptation takes you on the same or similar emotional journey, that's what matters. I've found myself rewatching the episodes over and over again finding the details. THERE'S SO MANY. That tells me that they're paying attention and not wasting a single second. Do I wish that Amazon would give them more episodes in a season, of course but I'm happy with what they're giving us now. It's a more digestible way of consuming this story.
