I started reading the series back in 2002 or 2003, I believe. Didn't love it right away, but after putting 'The Eye of the World' down for 6 months I finished the book and all the others currently published. The years between publications and increased IRL responsibilites made me fall off again, but I finally completed the whole series a couple of years ago. Absolutely loved the ending and cried my eyes out. Doing a re-read again now :whee

My favorite character is and have always been Nynaeve. Mostly because I get her and her motiviations the best.

Other authors I love (usually like all the books) are Tolkien, Hobb, Sanderson, Martin, Tracy Chevalier, Siri Pettersen, Fredrik Backmann, Joe Abercrombie (really looking forward to 'A little hatred'!). I mostly read epic fantasy or the like, but I do dabble in other genres.

The name I chose for this site is a rewriting of Aeariell, a nickname I've used online since 2001. It's a name someone translated into Sindarin for me supposing to mean 'daughter of the sea'. I didn't want to use a too tolkienesque name here, lol.

I speak/understand the Scandinavian languages, Icelandic, English (not a native speaker as you might have guessed) as well as some Mandarin and Spanish. I love studying languages, but alas, don't do it anymore.

I also have two podengo portugues pequeño liso dogs so do let me know if you are a fan of the breed ✌

Welcome! What really brings you here?

Similar story as me (as far as fantasy/books) but I have never been great with spoken languages.
I can't really understand Icelandic that often, though as a Swede, Norwegian and Danish is easier to understand but maybe not speak.
In a similar way, I understand Polish and Ukrainian may speak/understand each other, etc.
My German and French studies was a failure and I'm not going back to that soon.

I have formal language studies on university level though so take that with a hint of salt, as they say. *g*
But I'm good at a lot of computer languages instead. :-)

    Thank you!

I believe I found this forum years ago, but never signed up. After the TV-series hype I started reading the books again and when I saw something about this forum on Facebook I thought 'why not'? :-) Always nice to discuss the books you're reading, and my friends and boyfriend don't really read that much fantasy.

I'm from Norway so Danish and Swedish comes easy because of you guys occupying us and changing our language :ni And you know, Astrid Lindgren and SVT. I never try to speak though, my pronounciation is horrible. I lived in Iceland for a time that's why I know that one.

Did you study French and German at uni?

I don't know much about computer languages, but I did try to learn a bit at one point. I find almost everything interesting ✌

No! Horror! Just in high school... like around ~2000!

I studied formal Swedish grammar then applied in a computer world (think BNF, Chompsky, context-free grammar).
Other automata and graph theory (more like math applied in compiler construction) and the basics of speech synthesis systems <-- this was really interesting but good luck getting/finding a job in that area. :)

I read WoT for my kids now. :)

If you post them as public on Facebook you can copy the image location and use the [IMG]image helper that will put the correct tags in the post and link to the image.
