Ah, I see. :) Are you still able to visit Long Island sometimes? I've never been to eastern Pennsylvania actually. It's a long state.

Yeah, I'm living in Japan. If you've heard of the JET Program (Japan Exchange and Teaching Program), that's what I'm doing. It's a program that sends native English speakers to Japan on renewable 1-year contracts to be assistant English teachers in Japanese public schools. I live in the middle of nowhere in rural Gifu prefecture, but it's certainly a great experiences and yes, very different! I've been here for about 2 years now (and will be here for 1 year more), so it's passed the 'exciting' stage into just daily life (just in a foreign country), but that's not to say there aren't exciting things I get to do sometimes and it's a wonderful opportunity!

Occasionally, mostly I just make it as far as Manhattan to hang out. Like most people, I hate driving through New York. It is a long state. My sister and I drove through to Ohio and we thought we got lost because the state just doesn't end. I'm not sure I'll get out to Pittsburgh because of that reason, heh.

I haven't heard of the program, but it does sound like a wonderful opportunity! Do you speak Japanese at all, or learn a local dialect? I have no knowledge of Japan culture, actually. We always hear about the Chinese, and the technology genius of Japan, but rarely about the countryside, which I understand is most of the island because of the terrain? Perhaps I am mistaken. Nevertheless, that sounds like an awesome experience!! :eek

Yeah, that's the same reason I can't see myself going out to Philly much. I've never been there, but it just seems so far away even being in the same state! (though living in the middle of nowhere 1 hour's drive from the nearest movie theatre has made me reevaluate what I consider a long drive :p )

Yeah, I studied Japanese in college so I have no trouble with daily life stuff, though I wouldn't call myself fluent.

Yeah, the countryside is most of the country I'd say. It's amazing how every little bit of land is used. If you look at my town on google maps, it looks like they just said "hey, here's a mountain valley with no one living there, let's make a town!" My prefecture is also a very rural one and I'm in the most rural area of it so it's a bit of a drive for me to get anywhere. It's absolutely gorgeous, though, right in the middle of the mountains, and I love the town itself! :)

I bet Japan is gorgeous! I think PA is rural...I can't even imagine Japan!

And yes! I will definitely look for that when it happens! Hopefully I will have gotten and started The Great Hunt by then...

Thanks! It took getting the editor to sign the book for me to finally read it. She's very excited, as well, haha.

This looks like a good place so far. :D
