This was for some short story collection, though may have made its way into some printings since. I think it is in my German version, though I'd need to check

Theoretically, no spoilers in the main text - though any of the links could be full of them. There are many spoilers in the "Notes" section, but should all be hidden away by a spoiler tag
After a couple of dozen reads, and two or three site re-reads, I'd be surprised if there is anything left that we haven't noted in the chapter summaries (at least not noted because we didn't see it), but anything is possible
 
I've just started my first reread. I noticed that in the first chapter
Lews Therin is not the only person in the room! I forgot about that! First time I read that I knew nothing of forsakens and anything of that sort of course, so makes sense. I wonder who that is now...

He even tells Lews who he is. Rand's meetings with Ba'alzamon in dreams make much more sense when we remember what he says - he seems to lie a lot, and is possibly insane - He didn't stand by Lews side when he killed his family, he arrived later, but he did give him the moment of sanity

Yeah true, but I believe he does not wield that name 🤔
 
He doesn't so it's easy to miss (a bit like Nynaeve and Lan growing close - in our notes section, under the "Character development" part, I think we have all the interactions between Nynaeve and Lan, so we can actually see that although they don't interact much, they clearly have an ever increasing regard for each other), plus everyone is saying Ba'alzamon is the Dark One, and readers are probably used to the idea that the people in books who are supposed to know things, actually do, so we don't necessarily think "hmm, this wise Aes Sedai probably doesn't know what she is talking about here, I know much better"
I think it's up for debate how sane he is, and while I don't think he believes himself to be the Dark One (I don't think he ever says this, just doesn't correct misconceptions), he seems to think himself as an avatar who is speaking directly for the Dark One
 
Mild annoyance post; I'm reading in my native language now cause I have the books available in that language. However some names are different and it just bugs me. Most are a good match or the same but Perrin isn't. Plus I'm worried that some willen be named differently and I start talking about them here and everyone here will be like "who now?!?" 😅
 
Ooh, what llanguage is that? What did they change Perrin to?
Perrin is not really a name in English, but I did look, and several baby name sites says it is an old name meaning rock or stone (so an equivalent of Piere or Peter). I don't think many people reading it would pick up on that
A lot of the names derive from Arthurian legend as well (Gawyn, Galad, Egwene, Elayne, Nynaeve, Moiraine, Morgase, Thom, Lan. Probably some others that didn't register with me), so if a language has their own version of those, that might make sense to change, but Perrin feels like on odd one, unless it is a similarly obscure name that people probably wouldn't recognise
 
I'm reading in Dutch now and his name has been changed to Perijn (Pe with an e as in bed and ij very close to the i in ride). Emphasis on the second syllabe. So not quite matching. And the place names in the two rivers area are messed up.

Interesting! Does Perjin have a distinctive meaning in Dutch? It's not a language I'm terribly familiar with, even historically (usually my reference point for Greek, Germanic, Latin, etc.).

Nope. I think, like Perrin, it's a bit of a standout name. However, the English pronounciation of Perrin is not really matchable in Dutch. So rather similar to Perrin in English. We have a bunch of names that are close to it and related, like Peter, Pieter, Piet which all derive from the latin name of st. Petrus. But I don't think Perrijn derives from that 🤔 I'm was still thinking how I can describe the "IJ" sound for you. You should use google translate to translate the English word 'ice' to the dutch word "ijs" and then you'll hear what the "IJ" sounds like. I can't think of anything, but I keep wondering if any English word has that sound in it...

I always associated it with "Perry" in English, which I understand is pretty literal.
