It is with great pleasure that I can finally announce that Kitan Tataru and Eli Soljourn's bid of
Salt Lake City
has been selected as our next Fall Ball location.
Salt Lake City
has been selected as our next Fall Ball location.
We had 5 amazing bids! The selection process gets more difficult with each event due to the amazing quality of the bids we receive. We try very hard to keep events in North America moving from one region to the next, and in addition to beautiful scenery and lots of fun things to do, SLC is in a region we haven't spent much time in. Here's a handy map for reference. I'm very excited that Tar Valon will be able to explore this region of North America, and I think it promises to be an exciting event!
As tower funding allows, we're looking to lock in dates and hotels quickly. We're keenly aware of the Michigan Anni frustrations and are looking to make those problems a one-time fluke.
Here's a sampling of activities to consider from the bid:
Activities (museums, sites, and other touristy things to do in the area):
Temple Square: The most famous site in Salt Lake is Temple Square, headquarters of the Mormon Church. While only active Mormons can go into the temple itself, most of the other buildings are open to the public. Temple Square has museums, restaurants, performance venues, and a world-class genealogy research center. Temple Square is inside the TRAX "free ride zone."
Family-friendly attractions: The city also has many secular attractions, including science, history, art, and natural history museums, a children's museum, a planetarium, an aquarium, a world-class zoo, several art galleries, performances (theatre, music, dance), the University of Utah (a world-class university with a medical school), and state and national parks close by.
Shopping: Salt Lake has a huge mall called the Gateway right in downtown (within the TRAX "free ride zone"), as well as the new City Creek Shopping Center. There are also shopping villages, specialty shops, antique and collectible stores, and a big independent bookstore that Brandon Sanderson supports called Sam Weller's.
People who want to come a few days before Fall Ball or stay a few days afterwards can go to nearby Wendover, Nevada to enjoy the casinos there.
We look forward to seeing folks in SLC in Fall 2013!
